What will happen to DU if Daschle isn't confirmed, and Obama doesn't take Howard Dean?

7. My understanding is that Dean does not have the clout with members of Congress

From what I've read, Obama wants someone for that position who has a lot of relationships on the Hill and the legislative muscle to get his healthcare plan through Congress. As much as I love Dean it's true that he doesn't have any experience in Congress and unfortunately, there are some Democrats in Congress who don't think very highly of him or the strategic decisions he made as DNC chair. It's not fair, but getting a health care plan passed is more important than rewarding someone who clearly deserves a reward. As much as I love Dean if I were an adviser to the president I am not sure I'd advise him to pick Dean, for all the reasons I stated. I would, however, encourage him to give Dean something, or at least go out of his way to acknowledge Dean's contribution to his election, something I feel he has not done enough since the election.
