Gingrich On 2012: Palin "Is Very Formidable"

http://hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com/archives/2009/02/gingrich_on_201.php

WASHINGTON -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrigh said today that the 2012 Republican Party nominee will emerge from "a wide open field" -- but he suggested that AK Gov. Sarah Palin would have a "substantial advantage" in Iowa, the first-in-the nation caucus state, where she has "a very big base."

"If Sarah Palin seeks out a group of sophisticated policy advisers and spends time developing a series of fairly sophisticated positions," Gingrich said during his 33rd visit to the Christian Science Monitor breakfast series, "she is very formidable."

If the economy is still "a mess" a year from now, however, then Gov. Mitt Romney's business experience might become more relevant, Gingrich added. The former Speaker also mentioned another possible contender, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is expected to run for Texas governor.

Gingrich, who is running a policy organization called American Solutions, didn't make a pitch for his own candidacy.

developing...sophisticated positions..." in other words, if the GOP builds her like a robot and sends her preprogrammed ass out there, she might fool enough people. This is absurd. Why can't I be President then? Just fill me up with policy advice and positions and let me memorize what I'm supposed to say. This is what a President is, to Republicans. They want Female Chimpy.

8. Those are some big Ifs there
If she gets sophisticated policy advisers and develops sophisticated positions... Why not wish for the moon and the stars while you're at it, Newt?

Let's look at reality:
She doesn't take advice well.
She's not that bright.
She might be able to pick up a few tips on how to act as well as memorize a few more key facts, but like W., her whole life has been spent being intellectually incurious about the world around her, and it won't be hard for a serious reporter to "nail" her.
So if she's kept away from serious reporters, she'll essentially only be appearing on one network - FOX.
If she actually pulls off to a certain extent that she's more sophisticated, she could alienate some of her current fans who appreciated her "folksy" ways.

15. He's probably right about the nomination.

Nobody with any real smarts is going to bother to run against Obama hard, they may make a token effort so that they can get their speaker/book fees up but nobody in their right mind is going to want to take him on with his intelligence and ability to raise money.

Palin will get the religious nut base excited and they have the bodies to win caucuses and primaries.

She might be able to take 4-5 states in a GE.

37. I agree....many may sit 2012 out
Palin will run since she's the "star" of the Republican party. Romney will run because it may be his last chance. By 2016, he'll be getting older (69) which doesn't necessarily disqualify him but he will also have been out of public office for 10 years. Personally, I think Romney will be the GOP nominee in 2012 but who knows.

22. Palin
Let's hope he Is right, and they are stupid enough to nominater Palin. Why?It means an Obama landslide.Republicans still think they
are In 1993.Obama Is not Bill Clinton. The Republicans have been brought down by 8 years of Bush.To compare Obama to Kennedy or
Clinton Is not accurate. He Is more like the Democratic version of Reagan or a modern day FDR.

He was able to do what Gingrich,Bush senior,Dole, and Kenn Star couldn't do.Beat the Clintons.

Obama has done more to reach out to the other side than any President ever.If they continue like this or fillerbuster the
stimulas package It makes them look bad.We tried their way with tax cuts for teh wealthy and It didn't work.plus Polls show support
for spending rather than tax cuts.

We have Obama as our leader and they have Limbough as thiers.I like our side's chances better.

This is a long article, and may not mean much to people outside Alaska, but I think this one has some legs. We really need to get the FBI on this. Colberg isn't going to do anything.
