2. Why can't the Governor wait until Gregg has left and then appoint a Democrat?
There would be nothing in writing and he could just say I had a Republican moment and lied.

4. One of the mediaheads said it was b'cas Lynch wants to run for the senate seat next year...
.
.

If that's the case.. it should be interesting to see who he appoints.

5. I don't see why he would, but Lynch could probably beat any republican in the state
Heck, Lynch could have probably defeated Gregg himself in 2010 if he ran and Gregg stayed put. I mean the guy won his last governor's race in the largest margin of victory ever in state history.

But I really don't see why Lynch would want the senate seat, unless he fears having no other 'good' jobs to run for when he's term limited from being governor.

6. If he's smart he'll go with an Independent.
Why on God's earth would you create a Republican incumbent for a seat you're interested in running for?

12. In that case he should appoint a Democratic placeholder, one who is too old to run again

8. I'm pissed off at Obama for this. This makes no damn sense at all
We gain nothing from this. You could of awarded the many Democrats who supported you with this position. And you appoint a conservative and anti labor piece of shit to an important economic position. I've supported him on his appointments for the most part. But why the hell is he trying so hard to appeal to Republicans. Fuck this.

his appointments of LaHood, Geithner, and others on this board. Now I'm not sure there is a plan for this. No matter who he appoints, Republicans aren't going to stop wanting him to fail

11. Sorry, I was so
snarky.. Well, this is one to especially watch and if it goes bad, ya'll can tell Obama "I told you so".

One would think there would be someone better than Judd Gregg for Commerce Sec since Richardson was chosen first.

15. Judd is being replace by a Republican - Bonnie Newman
This is a fucking outrage, a win win for the Republicans while we lose a seat. Obama needs to start thinking about his own damned party for a change here. They will never side with him and the last thing he needs to do is start alienating his own base. This is bullshit.

16. I'm trying to not be upset. But I'm begining to wonder if he is really naive about Republicans
Which is a surprise considering he's been in the Senate, knowing how hateful and nasty they are. They are never going to work with him, no matter who he appoints. He needs to get it through his fucking head. THEY WANT YOU TO FAIL. And he has three of them in the cabinet. When those jobs could of went to passionate Democrats who supported him. I'm beyond pissed by this Anti Labor piece of shit being at Commerce.

17. I don't understand this move
If Newman goes with a filibuster of the stimulus, then I'd have to call it Obama's first big mistake.

18. Being from NH, I find this an interesting move
As much as I hated and bid good riddance to Sununu this past election, it was more difficult to be angry with Gregg as he answered my letters in a surprisingly reasonable fashion for a Republican and he had often sided with Dems - albeit for political reasons. I hope Lynch appoints somebody who can't possibly win in 2010, that's all I can say. I think a Dem has a good chance of winning anyway, so having a placeholder can't be that much of a threat.
