"They're just not that into you!"
Normally, I prefer KO to Rachel, but I must admit...I'm on my knees, bowing to her greatness tonight. :)

It's time Obama quits trying to suck up to the Repukes, and faces facts: He needs to do what the people elected him to do, not what the Republicans want him to do.

Go Rachel!!

3. It's Obama's call.
And I support the direction he goes in. And that is any direction he wants. Daschle is not a threat, and Obama has to know this.

4. I thought the analogy clever
He's better than this and so are we.

Rachel is clever and original.

Republicans should be kicked to the curb, not coddled and nurtured for their input.

I admire Obama for being big enough to give it a shot but it's perfectly apparent that the republicans intend to do nothing but go for everything they can get and to give nothing.

Cher

5. I don't agree with her. As I said on another thread...
Rachel Maddow doesn't get it...

She's one of those who think Obama should stop with the bipartisanship saying, "They're just not that into you," claiming he's not getting anything out of it. She's not looking at the big picture. This isn't a romantic relationship. It's a political strategy. He's doing the right thing. The longer he keeps reaching out, the worse the Repubs. will look.

11. People's lives are at stake
This is no time for "political strategy". It's time for saying, "I tried to cooperate, you refused to do so, we're rebuilding America with or without you. This is what the American people elected me for, and you're not representing their will."

Rachel is 100% on the mark, and if Obama doesn't stop sucking up to the Republicans, people are going to lose confidence in him.

"They're just not that into you", Mr. President.

12. And the parts of the bill that Repubs. want taken out...
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 10:33 PM by jenmito
mostly SHOULDN'T be in THIS bill, anyway. Dems. like Claire McCaskill and others agree. This isn't putting people's lives at stake.

Rachel's wrong on this one. Just like she was wrong when she INSISTED Hillary was going to take it all the way to the Convention.

Rachel's a little paranoid. She says so.

21. Then let them stick to that. They're NOT going to get something so unreasonable and again, THEY
will look all the worse for that extreme position while Obama will look all the better for taking out the things that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

20. jenmito. I guess you and I are the only ones who consistently
agree with Obama's strategy. It's hard to understand why so many don't see the value of what Obama is doing. A lot of shortsightedness around here, that's for sure.

22. There are others...
but it IS hard to understand the many who don't get it. He won the election by sticking to HIS strategy. Why should he stop now?

14. +1. Rachel talks as though she knows Congress better than Obama
which I doubt. He's worked with them for 4 years, but some can't help but claim that he doesn't seem to get it, when it's actually we who don't (yet) know what's going on because we aren't in on the discussions between Obama and his advisors.

7. Rachel maddow has been wrong about pretty much everything when it comes to Obama
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 09:47 PM by alcibiades_mystery
Her track record when it comes to Obama is just piss poor. She's clueless, likely since his behavior doesn't fit any of the standard theories she learned over at the poli sci departments.

Apparently, her Cambridge education didn't buy her no damn sense. She should take that act to the South Side. She might learn something.

8. I don't get the Gregg thing. Why not award Democrats who supported you?
Gregg is against everything Democrats stand for. He's a prick. I thought it was ok when a Democrat would take his seat. But now this makes no sense. This guy hates Labor Unions and is a corporate tool. Man, I really don't get this one. I can understand Rachel's position on this.

10. If Democrats can boot Republicans out of office by reducing their behavior
to THEY'RE JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU...

so much the better. Intransigence is not worthy of leadership. They are become loveable politicians (which might be oxymoronic) when they learn to compromise on the important things.

17. Didn't people elect him to be inclusive, etc.? I think Obama has been
making more than admirable efforts at bipartisanship and making steps to the United States of America (not red states, blue states, Repub, Dem, black, white, etc. ... you know the rest).

I wouldn't call that caving, I would call that living up to what he said he'd do and doing it.

The fact that he's being met with unproductive and self-serving (though destructive for ALL of us, in my view) is a shame, but that's the responsibility of those who are demanding it...

I don't think Obama has been sucking up, I think he's done his best to create a new atmosphere and these guys have proven they're not interested in doing things differently. When it's all about control, it's on the wrong path.

They're wrong, not Obama. Not in my opinion, anyway...
