Is this Daschle thing blowing up?
I tried calling Feinstein's (one of my senators) office and the Whitehouse (202-456-1111), and both lines are repeatedly busy. Was able to get through to Boxer's office after a couple tries and told the person on the phone in no uncertain terms that Daschle had to go. I see that Katrina vanden Heuvel at the Nation is on record for canning the nomination. I love her replacement idea: Howard Dean. http://www.thenation.com/blogs/edcut/404060/obama_let_daschle_go?rel=hp_picks

2. Katrina vanden Heuvel going on record against an Obama pick
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 12:07 PM by Occam Bandage
is about as significant as Rush Limbaugh going on record against an Obama pick. Nobody is shocked. I would love to see Daschle dropped, but I don't think he will be, given Obama's support of him (and the fact that Senators don't vote against confirming Senators).

5. He was a crappy majority leader
And he's apparently not real bright. What reason is there to expect he will be able to handle the job?

Given the state of health care in the US this is one of the more important cabinet positions. It should not be trusted to a hack like Daschle, or it'll get shit canned just like the Clinton program of 1994 and we can forget about quality health care for a generation at best.

6. Evidently this is the Obama cronyism, which looks like the Bush cronyism.
In short we the people are getting screwed on this Daschle pick.

Heck of job, Obama!

7. I'd imagine so... the Republican and Democratic bases are finally united on something.
