And they succeeded in one heck of a dirty campaign by John Thune. I live on the western border of Iowa, so am quite familiar with politics of my western neighbors.

The uber right have had Daschle in their sites from the get go.

You can bet they are rejoicing "you know where".

1. Two people who were targets of the right, who ended up
doing themselves in anyway with inappropriate behavior: Bill Clinton, and Tom Daschle.

3. How did Bill Clinton "do himself in?" He left office with 70% approval rating. Higher than Reagan.

5. Well, getting impeached is pretty shameful. I didn't so much approve
of his behavior, or his perjury. He handed the right the ammo they were looking for. I don't care what anyone else thought--I, as a Democrat, could never see him the same way again.

Impeachment of Bill Clinton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Floor proceedings of the U.S. Senate during the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in 1999, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist presiding. The House managers are seated beside the quarter-circular tables on the left and the president's personal counsel on the right.Bill Clinton, President of the United States was impeached by the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998, and acquitted by the Senate on February 12, 1999. The charges, perjury, obstruction of justice, and abuse of power arose from the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the Paula Jones law suit. The trial proceedings were largely party-line, with no Democratic Senators voting for conviction and only five Democratic Representatives voting to impeach. In all, 55 senators voted not guilty, and 45 voted guilty on the perjury charge. The Senate also acquitted on the charge of obstruction, with 50 votes cast as not guilty, and 50 votes as guilty.<1> It was only the second impeachment of a President in American history, following the impeachment of Andrew Johnson in 1868

12. Sorry, Clinton was Impeached
as soon as the House voted for the Articles of Impeachment. Then he was tried in the Senate where he was found not guilty and thus not removed from office.

13. Clinton was impeached!!
It just like being indicted. He was not prosecuted, though.

Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we've had in 50 years.

7. What were the numbers after Rove concocted an 8 month 'Clintons trashed WH' lie?
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 02:09 PM by blm
And right after 9-11 when Clinton let Bush and GOP message machine blame him for coddling terrorists during the 90s?

As I recall, his numbers slipped ALOT based on those targeted smears, especially with those deceitful polls taken post 9-11, "Aren't you glad Bush was president on 9-11?" "Do you expect Bush will be harder on terrorism than Clinton? "Who will best fight terrorism, Bush, Gore, Clinton?"

Those polls were nauseating and Gore and Clinton were always set up to be diminished. I also wonder why Clinton never did more to fight those lies at the time.

4. Daschle did himself no favors.
I think the world of him, but this was so foolish on his part.

It's better that he is gone.
