Poll question: Do you want universal health care or do you want Dean?
Universal health care will not be easy to pass. Howard Dean is a divisive figure with no experience in Congress, is hated by the Republican members of Congress and some of the Democrats.

Do you want someone who can get a good universal health care plan passed or do you want to reward Dean with a patronage job? Where are your priorities?

1. False poll
I want Dean because I believe he can deliver the Obama plan. Which is not quite UHC.

5. Why?
Why is Dean more able to deliver the Obama plan than someone who served in Congress?

19. Perhaps because he already delivered one
Are we all forgetting that Dean brought universal health to Vermont?

He has experience in this area that no other potential nominee possesses.

11. Yes. False Poll.

Or maybe, we'd rather have a health care plan that does not work. I'd hope Dean would shame them into getting the system the American people deserve.

2. The two are not mutually exclusive
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 02:48 PM by supernova
Regardless of who's at HHS, WE are the ones who are going to have to exert pressure on Congress (esp the repubs and DLCers) to pass UHC.

They won't come up with it on their own. We will have to do it for them. In short, they will have to be too terrified NOT to pass it.

edit: That is OUR job. }( }(

4. Yep. And we've got to somehow let it be known that they WILL NOT
get re-elected unless we DO have UHC. And we know there's going to be a lot of resistance.

6. What is your priority?
Someone who has actually passed a bill in Congress before or Howard Dean?

10. A passed bill with no substance isn't a winner either
which is what Daschle would have given us... in all probability.

Sorry, I want a bill that addresses actual problems with actual solutions, not a peaon to the insurance industry.

What is your priority?

8. The poll reflects my honest opinion.
You're free to disagree, but complaining about the poll isn't an argument.

Which is more important to you? Having Dean or someone who knows how to get a bill through Congress?

24. If your opinion was used to create the poll, then you admit bias
Did you ever consider that people might have other opinions and that those opinions should be presented honestly as poll choices?

And I would like to have Dean precisely because I think he can get this bill through Congress...or at least he'll be effective because he knows the process from the executive branch...something a legislator knows shit about. this is not a legislative appointment.

You false dichotomy makes you intellectual dishonest on this issue, and it is transparent.

This isn't right wing talk radio. Bias isn't an ugly word here.

The poll is meant to spur a discussion about priorities.

16. I want Kucinich
It's common knowledge Kucinich is passionate advocate for Universal Single Payer Health Care for ALL (HR 676), he's thorough, he's fair, and above all, he's not a quitter. I have little doubt that given a platform and a budget he could easily rally the public in demand of single-payer. Kucinich would be my choice anyway.

because he'd likely *GET* us universal health care.
