He's on CSPAN trying to convince us that the stimulus package won't work. Of course, this is the same guy that told us the "fundamentals of our economy are strong".

3. Because he actually "is" an American Hero.

That's enough for some people...screw the issues it's all about that one thing.

and Sarah Palin having a vagina is enough for others.

6. Really?

Hero: 1 a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b: an illustrious warrior c: a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d: one that shows great courage

Which one of those fits McCain? An honest perusal or the record shows none.

He only thinks he's of divine origin. His illustrious career consisted of spending more under the silk than in a plane. And his so-called "courage" in VN is under question.

9. It's the POW thing. No matter how one tries it is not something to openly question it.

D fits him. Some may think C. Seriously he was locked in a box in the Hanoi Hilton. It doesn't make him a better person or a better leader. It does make him a tough bastard...of course you can question his courage there and say disparaging things about it but it would have to be some solid evidence against him to dink that great hero facade if it is in fact false.

Campaigns over. You can relax now. He lost. He did so graciously. He had the look of a man caught up in a mess that he could not control...one more reason to relax.

Now Palin? She can't seem to understand why the hell she scares the shit out of people and refuses to shut up. The nut basically hijacked his campagn. He could have gone a whole lot dirtier than he did...oh yes. He could have followed Sarah into all the way into the sewer and away from his wading pond.

10. It made him a tough bastard?
What were his choices? Seriously. If being locked in a prison cell by a hostile government makes you a "tough bastard" and a hero, there are hundreds of heroes right down in Guantanamo -- some of whom have been locked up longer than McStain and who were tortured more than McStain.

There are worse stains than he to deal with. If anything he is a shocking reminder on what a poor decision maker he really is and how we dodged a bullet with him.

I have no love for the man, but let it go. His record was all he was standing on and to any logical thinker, it hardly made him a better or more qualified leader. Let him have it.

4. Giuliani imploded
Moderate Republicans, though not large in number, then had no place to go but to McCain. Conservatives were split all over the map between Romney, McCain, Hucklebee, and other fringe candidates. Throw in votes from Independents voting in open Republican primaries and the math adds up for McCain.

5. The GOP had no one else
The base would never go for Giuliani, Mitwit either.

The rest of the potential nominees no one had ever heard of before the primaries.

11. The dilemma of attracting independent
He was elected because Republicans wanted to attract Independents. Even they realized that they could not rely on the church crowd alone.

But the church crowed was not excited about his. While they did not think that he was "Muslim" they mistrust his Jesusnes. So he selected Palin to galvanize the base and, in doing so, rejected many moderate Republicans and the very Independent that supported him in 2000.

He should have been the nominee in 2000. By 2008 it was too late for him.

13. Because he was what they thought to be the more left leaning candidate in their party
Not to say he was or wasn't, but they felt he was and in an election that was not favoring the GOP after 8 years of Bush, they thought McCain was their best bet. If this had been a good year for the GOP they would have never chosen McCain, he isn't Right wing extreme enough for them, which is why the force Palin on him.

BTW, I really LOL'd at your line "More boring then church"

14. Give the guy some credit.
The GOP wanted someone who represented who they are. McCain and Palin were incompetant liars and hopeless fuckups. Seemed like a perfect choice to me.

And he only survived because none of the other candidates bothered attacking him.
