President Obama said today: "I scewed up." Kudos to him for saying it!
WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama on Tuesday abruptly abandoned his nomination fight for Tom Daschle and a second major appointee who failed to pay all their taxes, fearing a lingering ethics dispute would undercut his claims to moral high ground and cripple his presidency in just its second week. "I screwed up," Obama declared.

"It's important for this administration to send a message that there aren't two sets of rules — you know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who have to pay their taxes," Obama said near the end of a day of jarring developments, little more than 24 hours after he had said he was "absolutely" committed to Daschle's confirmation.

"I'm frustrated with myself, with our team. ... I'm here on television saying I screwed up," Obama said on NBC's "Nightly News with Brian Williams." He repeated virtually the same words in interviews with other TV anchors.

Mr. President, I appreciate your candor and willingness to admit your mistake. We saw more humility from you today than we ever saw from Shrub in 8 years.

Another reason why you will make a great president, but more importantly - a good human being! :)

1. The Republicans will be on this.
I commend President Obama for taking responsibility, but the Alpha male wannabes in the 'pub party are going to get the vapors and call him out on it. Mark my words.

Yea, the trashy pukes may jump on it - but I'm glad The President is not letting politics get in the way with owning his mistake. Good on him!

He was getting pitched a lot of shit for the hypocrisy of some of his recent appointments, how his team did not vet Tom D. enough is a mystery. But declare the mistake and move on.

HOWARD DEAN for HHS would really make amends!!!

12. The Repub party may go off on this....
...but remember, they represent too. Perhaps I am being idealistic, but maybe their constituents will see the honour in Obama admitting he was wrong, and the childish ways their leaders are being.
Obama has worked harder on being partisan in 2 2 weeks then Numb nuts did in 8 years.
Again, probably idealistic of me, but I "hope"!

9. Right. They never take the
high road, always work as a unified team, and will kick you hard in the balls when you're up or down. Still it was very refreshing to hear Obama utter those words, particularly after 8 years of Bush who would never admit to being wrong about anything.

8. There are always a few rejected nominees
That's what congressional consent is there for. It gives a closer look.

Obama was no more negligent than other presidents. Want negligent? Who was that New York police chief Bush tried to put at the head of homeland security?

10. He's one cool cat
One thing I can say about Obama is he's man enough to take responsibility. And he came across as very confident that mistakes like this will not happen again.
