At 2:15, POTUS and FLOTUS began to read “The Moon Over Star” by Dianna Hutts Aston, illustrated by Jerry Pinkey. (Info from White House handout). The book is about Neil Armstrong's moon landing. The handout notes that “For the young protagonist of this lyrical and hopeful picture book, that landing is something that inspires her to make one giant step toward all of the possibilities that life has to offer.”

Mrs. Obama began reading at 2:15 saying “ I will read first but if you find my reading so compelling…..” POTUS sat on the left facing the class, Mrs. Obama on the right, and they held the book up together so the class could see the illustrations as she read. The book's text was on the left, the illustrations on the right. At 2:18, the President began reading. The class sat quietly with very little fidgeting as the first couple read. Three adults sat on the floor with the kids.

The story ended at 2:24. The president said, “that's a nice book.” The he asked who wanted to be an astronaut. One kid said yes. ‘What else do people want to be?” POTUS said. The replies included doctor, football player, and sculptor. One boy wanted to be president. ‘I think you might make it,” POTUS said.

He was asked about pets and said, “we had a fish. I've got to admit the fish died.” Mrs. Obama said, “the girls say we keep killing them.” One girl said she wanted to be First Lady. Mrs. Obama said, “it doesn't pay much.”

Then the president asked for questions. Why did he want to be president? “To be able to help people,” the president said. Mrs. Obama added that, “he listened to his parents and teachers – most of the time.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The mother of a Wisconsin soldier who died in Iraq says she was "ecstatic" during Friday's debate when Senator Barack Obama mentioned the bracelet she gave him in honor of her son.

Tracy Jopek of Merrill told The Associated Press on Sunday she was honored that he remembered Sgt. Ryan David Jopek, who was killed in 2006 by a roadside bomb.

She criticized Internet reports that suggested Obama exploited her son for political purposes.

She acknowledges e-mailing the campaign in February asking that Obama not mention her son in speeches or debates.

But she says Obama's mention on Friday was appropriate because he was responding after Senator John McCain said a soldier's mother gave him a bracelet.

Jopek says Obama's comment rightfully suggested there's more than one viewpoint on the war.

This is the bracelet of the "I have a bracelet too" fame which he said in response to McCain waving HIS bracelet around (figuratively) during their first debate.
