This showy populist outrage is uber-dumb politics
The aggregate called "the public" is dumb but not simple.

The theory is: 1) Gin up populist outrage over things that have no real effect. 2) That will convince people I am on their side. 3) They will thus accept subsequent federal economic intervention.

The reality is: 1) Gin up populist outrage over things that have no real effect. 2) That increases generalized malaise and cynicism and "let it all collapse" and "there's nothing to be done" thinking. 3) People are less likely to support ANY subsequent federal intervention.

No theoretical premise for any form of stimulus has been developed in the public.

The Democrat on the street will tell you the problem is these fat-cats. The Republican on the street will tell you the problem is re-sodding the mall or contraception spending.

They are both simply wrong. Neither of those things is a problem. They are mere rounding errors in any possibly effective federal intervention.

People being people, everyone only needs one reason to oppose federal economic intervention. The pug voters have their reasons (Will make government bigger). Deficit hawk independents have their reasons (Will balloon the deficit). Democrats have their reasons (Will end up funneling money to fat-cats)

Even though everyone's reasons are different net opposition is additive.

Why does everything have to be based on a "theory" ? I theorize that there is no reality anymore. JMO
