If we really believe that Obama wants universal health care, doesnt this bill seem to signal he has no intention of trying to get UHC passed?

UHC cannot be funded with a sin tax, and this legislation will be redundant if UHC is ever passed.

Are we sure he and Congress have any intentions of working to get UHC into law, or is this all there is?

15. I'm hoping this is temporary until we have UHC - it's one of my

priorities, because I'm self employed and pay for my HC insurance.

But I also know this will be a long, hard battle - the GOP will fight UHC every step of the way. In the meantime, I'm glad children will be covered.

18. No - this is a renewal of a program that was started in 1997

It funds children's health in every state. Children in families too poor to afford health insurance and too well off for medicaid have relied on this for 10 years. Several UHC plans keep and expand the SCHIP plan - so it might be part of the UHC plan. IF the UHC plan makes it unneeded - I'm sure the plan will include the transition needed. It might be over a year before, at the earliest, that UHC is passed. This is needed now.
