Obama DOES NOT FUCK AROUND! Pushback Is COMING!
Mark my words. I know we get impatient. We want it now because we know the dire straights the country is in. We get frustrated, we want immediate gratification. But sometimes, you have to leave it to the masters. Obama's not perfect, but remember, we had the same impatience w/ him through the primaries and the election. O proved he knew what he was doing. The signs are there that pushback is coming. He has let the Repubs play their hand. He gave them every opportunity to behave reasonably and responsibly. They haven't. Now it's time for the hammer. It's coming. Just watch.

1. As in the campaign, he sometimes is a little tardy hitting back
but when he does so, he's spot on and hits hard.

2. I Don't Know If I'd Call It "Tardy"
Like in boxing, timing is very important. The Repubs have now TOTALLY played their hand. O knows EXACTLY what game they are playing. NOW is probably the right time to pushback, when their hand is TOTALLY on the table and he has revealed NOTHING to them about how he is going to pushback. In fact, what he's allowed them to see is probably NOTHING like what is actually in store for them.

Timing is often EVERYTHING. From our POV right now, it may look "tardy". After the whole process, it may in fact have been PERFECTLY played.

56. Oh yes. He waits until the opposition thinks he's a pushover and let's their guard down.
That's how he wins. He doesn't have to hit back hard.

He just waits until the opposition lays all their cards on the table.
Then he lays down a flush.

20. Please be right.
Or we're sunk. I told Sen. Levin's staff. If Obama triangulates with the GOP senator's call to cut payroll taxes 1/2- then I'd call Sen. Feingold and ask him to start his campaign for president in 2012. I pray that will not be necessary. We did not elect a Democrat to enact more trickle down; as Sen. McConnell will filibuster to enact.

33. I remember 1999
Manchester United kept winning game after game on goals scored in the added time. People kept saying that they were lucky. So lucky they stumbled upon a championship, FA Cup and a Champions League victory.

But when you do it time and time again, it stops being luck and starts being a skill. So maybe tardy is what it takes.

3. I believe this. I think if the GOP doesn't let up, Obama is gonna lose lose his patience with them,
Obama is a man of reason and compromise, but the GOP is on their way to push their limits and Obama is not the man who will let them walk all over him. If the Republicans continue on this divisive and and obstructive path, Obama will push back...HARD.

I would disagree with the assertion that he will lose his patience. Rather, I believe
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 05:59 PM by Parker CA
that he will change his tactic to a different maneuver. Losing patience, to me, connotes a reaction that might be somewhat haphazard or knee-jerk in it's method of response. I believe Obama is doing what every smart fighter does, he is letting his opponents wear themselves out while he is exerting hardly any real energy yet. As the pukes get to the end of their stock of ideas and stashed energy, Obama is going to come out and pound them. It won't be short-sighted, it won't be unprofessional, and it won't be mis-calculated. It will be something they were never expecting.

I just think that there will come a time soon where some of the bi-partisan "niceties" will fall away and Obama will make a point to show them that while he's willing to compromise and work with them, he can just as easily do everything in his power to make their jobs difficult as they are doing for him now.

Our economy is bleeding out. "Immediate" may be the only chance we have to avert a major economic collapse.

15. Better Than You
Krugman's great but he ain't perfect, and doesn't give a timeline. How immediate is immediate? It's not like this can get done yesterday. Obama knows the urgency and will get it done as soon as humanly possible given the circumstances. He's not omnipotent, despite what some people expect of him.

13. Yes, today he is focused like a Laser Beam.
To borrow one from Bill.

I think yesterday was his worst day, with all the interviews on TV right after Daschle withdrew. But today is another day, and he is going at them, twice on TV in one day. Then there's the ads running in local markets, the economic impact statements, the governors and mayors descending on DC...Republicans will be shamed into this, and I predict several more than 60 to vote for it in the end, including a handful of Republicons.

16. To employ a sports metaphor...
... the team that scores the most points early in the game often ends up losing.

I think we'd be foolish here to assume Obama and his team were completely caught off guard by GOP resistance to his stimulus package. In a way, I think he's just letting them play their hand, indeed. I can't remember a time in the general election where Obama didn't prevail, after waiting patiently for the GOP/McCain to bluster and sputter, after all.

He's got them in a bad position. They were actually celebrating themselves for stopping the stimulus bill. Owning it. And I'm thinking, "but the house is on fire". Most people will see this too. Their digging the pit they set for Obama, but they're the ones who will fall in it. And the best part is, after they eventually sign a bill, they're going to have to explain to their rabid base, why they signed a bill to help save the country, instead of remaining true to their "conservative principles".

I love what he's doing to them.

The repubs are well on their way to shooting themselves in their foot yet again and President Obama is helping them do it. The Recovery Bill will pass, imo, and the repubs are being seen as the pathetic obstructionists they are.

President Obama was sworn in on January 20th, today is February 5th, a scant 15 days have passed and the Obama Administration has already begun the repairs necessary to bring REAL CHANGE to the United States, imo.

I believe the old expression "Patience is a virtue" is apropos at this time.

His Washington post editorial ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/04/AR2009020403174.html?hpid=opinionsbox1 ) is but the latest salvo.

He doesn't blink, he keeps the pressure on through a long series of editorials, press releases, speeches and interviews just beating the drum over and over and over again.

The Republicans won't be able to continue the resistance - eventually they'll have to take some sort of face-saving compromise and let the stimulus bill go through.
