Here's What People Don't Get: The Real Fight Is About Philosophy and Way of Thinking
That is why Obama has to do what he is doing. This is why he has to put forth the attempt to entertain their rotted out philosophies and ideas, because that is the only way to break and expose them as unsuited to America and the world.

As long as the rancid partisanship continues, the parties are just throwing words and memes at each other. When they do that, they are not really talking to each other so much as propagandizing the public.

But when you make them sit in a room (by inviting them to events)and explain themselves and their philosophy, he can easily rip them to shreds, in front of witnesses, as apparently he has already done, in just about every "bi-partisan" meeting that I have read about. He gives them their chance to explain why their way is the way, and then he viscerates them with facts, figures, exposing the real meat of what they want to do. He knows who their policies benefit and why. So they can't bullshit him.

Obama will expose them by engaging them, not by going behind a line and throwing memes and words at each other. That's what they did in World War I. You line up over there, I'll line up over here, and we'll just shoot at each other until we run out of ammunition. But we will never cross our lines.

Every meeting I've read about, in the background to what's going on, there is always something he says that trips them out. It's almost like the media doesn't really want to report on it, but it's so spicy, they just have to. Like how he literally kicked their asses in that meeting with McCain and the leaders of Congress when the economic thing hit near the end of the campaign. He did it by just uttering a few words. Chumped McCain in the process just by asking if he had read a two page proposal and then glared at him for the rest of the meeting for wasting everyone's time. And this after McCain had made such a big deal about going to Washington "to fix it".

Then he delivered the coup de grace to McCain when McCain tried to blow off the debate. The moment McCain announced that he was cancelling the debate because he had to go to Washington, I knew exactly what OBama was going to do. And he wasted no time in doing it. He called him out. Forced him to appear. Obama became the alpha male on the planet when the debate was over. Because not only had he forced the man to appear, but McCain would not even look him in the eye. Forget what they talked about.

That was such a powerful thing to do in every way, especially psychologically. It was so devastating, that McCain could not look him in the eye. It reminded me of those nature films I used to watch. Whatever the animal, apes, lions, dogs, monkeys, etc., the Alpha Male was so powerful, that his chief adversary had the shame of not being able to look him in the eye. Unlike the other males, it was the failed chief adversary, that always had to appear subserviant in the presence of the alpha

When I hear the republicans proudly shouting their memes now, I can't help smile about how much he is exposing. Some of the things they are saying are just downright ugly. Really really ugly. And they are proud of what they are saying. As Obama once said, taking pride in their own ignorance. It's like the mask is being ripped off of the propaganda, and everybody can see the wall behind the curtain.

As Obama said during the inaugural, the ground has shifted underneath them. They don't even know or realize just how ugly they sound when they brag about why they shouldn't have to help pay for things that even they take advantage of. So they keep on doing it. Today it reminded me of the expression, "fiddling while Rome burned", because today the other side was celebrating their victory over the stimulus bill not passing. Celebrating while people have been put out of homes, there are tens of thousands of job losses happening RIGHT NOW, and it's going to get a lot worse. I can't wait to hear them crying about which ones of their Senators they have to blackmark because he voted the wrong way, because ultimately, a bill WILL get signed. So all this build up they are doing is going to cause tremendous confusion in their party after the bill, whatever it winds up being, gets signed.

So the more Obama acts graciously, the more the dagger is driven home. He's not only destroying their party as far as I'm concerned, he's taking out their ideology as well.

7. NO. Most certainly not, and that's part of the problem
Our candidates have been campaigning against their candidates, and against their mistakes and foibles. We have not seen campaigns against Reaganomics, excessive militarism, religious intolerance. Not a peep from any of our major candiates on these issues. And there are the critical issues they use to keep their party going.

Four years from now, if the GOP is still in existence, they will be right back at it like 2008 never happened.

2. While I agree with your general premise
I think the real fight now is to pass this stimulus bill. Time to get out the whupping stick. I think President Obama showed a little bit of bringing down the hammer with his comments today.

That being said, I've second guessed this guy too many times and ended up on the wrong end. I wont be surprised if I'm wrong again.

3. I know that. But can't get the stimulus bill passed without exposing their
philosophy as a failure. And he is doing that. He's only been president for two weeks now. Give him time. My point is, he HAS to engage them.

(I can't believe somebody read this long post. LOL)

4. The Republican Party is in a pathetic position: They either
stand still or embrace change.

The last election was not the end, plenty of time for voters to forget and the Repubs to try to spin them a new memory.

It's imperative that Democrats continually jog the public's memory and keep them alert about Republican obstructionism and spin.

6. Exactly.
A stimulus bill will get passed. They can't stand the pressure eventually. Then they will have to explain to their confused follwers after so mch hype, why they passed a bill, instead of letting the country implode.

Can you imagine the chaos if food and water were to become scarce? Everybody in America's got a gun, and in general, we are a greedy people who have no problem rationalizing anything to survive. It's a horror I don't want to see, but apparently, the stupid followers of the right are just begging for this kind of thing to happen.

15. MoveOn requesting LTTE's supporting Obama's Plan. Here's mine...

...

President Obama was elected because, in overwhelming numbers, Americans are
tired of Republican policies of the last eight years that have taken our economy
off course. Even when the Bush Administration touted the 'strong fundamentals'
of our economy...we voters knew better, and we voted for change. President
Obama's Stimulus Package will bring to our country exactly the kind of change we
need.

But what is left of the Republican Party in Congress...the 'Roadblock
Republicans'...didn't get the message. They are still complaining about the
Stimulus Package, and calling for tax cuts, just as they have for eight years
now. Even worse, they criticize items that amount to a tiny fraction of the
bill...like anti-smoking programs that make up less than one-ten-thousandth of
the spending.

This kind of nit-picking is pure politics. It's exactly what 'Roadblock
Republicans' have been doing for the last eight years.

Obama's Stimulus bill is a GREAT bill that will help a lot of struggling
families. I hope Congress will remember all those people on the mall in
Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2009...who represent so many Americans who are
counting on them...and pass the stimulus package quickly. Let's finally put this
country back on the right track.

10. we get it. but how about joe lunchpail? does he sit around the cafeteria at
work with his buddies discussing the political brilliance of obama's bipartisanship strategy?

...with the news media whores working overtime to derail the president?

all that will matter to the voters next year is the state of the economy, not the strategy that got us there.

God bless obama. i hope his strategy works.

11. Well I guess that's my problem. I should stop caring whether
the public can see the strategy and it's brilliance, because it's obvious from this board, that a lot of people don't get it. But maybe if they did, there wouldn't be so much whining around here. There's even a thread recently launched that questions why Obama said the word "if" instead of "when". I mean, I don't know how you can strain a smaller gnat than that. It's getting crazy. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at people's incredible nervousness over the economic crisis. We are teetering on a brink. I, for one do not want to find out exactly how much a house of cards our "system" really is. I'm really nervous too.

12. Practical action kicks philosophy's butt, whenever they meet. I never met anyone
who was persuaded by philosophical analysis. Philosophy can help us make our ideas clear -- but it cannot discover material facts, and it has no immediate effect on the world. There is only one way to change the world -- and that is to actually do things
