A question to ask about Tax credits for special interests:
I'm already seeing complaints about the tax credit for home buyers that the Senate just passed. I'd love to get me a tax credit, too. The key point to remember though, is that while we may not benefit directly, the idea is to get the entire economy going. We aren't going to qualify for each and every part of this Stimulus Bill or any future spending bill or program that comes through the next few months. But, if the proposals do get the economy moving, we all benefit in the end.

1. Oh my God, a sane person
what a concept? There is a whole thread bitching about the credit you mention. Some here seem to be so stuck on a class war (they're saying it's just for the rich) it's enough to drive me nuts.

2. I figure, well, my son will miss out because he bought a house last year.
But then, my daughter may get a job when she graduates, so I'm happy!

3. I just assume that 99.9999% of it will have nothing direct for me
and the home buying item is the one item I've heard that might help me directly. All the other things are indirect, some very remote, some in between (stuff for my niece's school maybe?), some closer to me (e.g., infrastructure).

4. People need more money
to qualify for a mortgage. Not tax credits to encourage them to manipulate their income because it's the only way they're going to be able to buy.

We don't need to recreate the last 8 years. That's the objection to the housing and car tax credit, not that it won't have a direct benefit.

5. Now I consider that a valid comment. Complaints about stimulus proposals
that amount to " He got his, where's mine!?!" are kind of missing the point, IMO.

6. I don't qualify for *any* of the credits, direct cash payouts
or anything else in that package for that matter, so I have no idea how or if this will affect my own personal economy.

7. IF the Stimulus Bill passes, and IF you still have a job a year from now,
then you will know!
