An Economic 9/11 - Obama Needs To Change The Imagery....... |
|
After 9/11 Bush went down to ground zero and stood on the rubble and said "The people that knocked down these buildings will hear all of us". In another instance he said "Your either with us or against us..." Soon after the Patriot Act was passed without Congress even reading it.
President Obama needs to say that what is happening in the economic crisis is equivalent to a 9/11 and tell Congress that they are either with the American people or they are against the American people. Maybe this would shame them into getting this Economic Stimulus Bill passed. He also needs to say that the people that got us into this situation (knocked down these buildings) will hear from all of us.
Osama Bin Laden's goal was not to bring down the towers to kill people - it was to provide a catalyst so that the U.S. would bring down itself - economically. From the looks of things - it appears that he is succeeding.
I didn't like and still don't like Bush and what he did to this country for the last 8 years - but - he did use the situation in a way to get things done - even if they were the wrong things.
Perhaps if some of the tactics Bush used to move Congress in the wrong way can be modified a bit and used to move Congress in the right way.
I see this economic crisis we're in as even more serious than 9/11.

3. I don't think Obama would |
|
He campaigned against it and used the phrase "We have chosen hope over fear" in his inaugural address.
I just don't see him using fear to get what he wants.

6. The Imagery That Is Being Shown Is That Of The Great Depression..... |

unfortunately most American's weren't around back then and can't identify with it. It is too far removed. 9/11 is recent. Most American's lived through that period and can identify with it. I believe that without invoking the phrase 9/11 one could use a line to Congress - like - "Your either with the American people or your against them". It is Congress that is sitting on this Economic Stimulus bill and not moving it as swiftly as they should. Every crossed 't' and dotted 'i' is being scrutinized. That was not the case with the Patriot Act. Most admitted that they didn't read it - but went ahead and passed it anyway - because there was a perceived immediate need to do something.
Well now there really is an immediate need to do something and they are sitting on it and bucking the President every step of the way - even his own party.
The consequences of not passing this bill are more dire than that of the consequences of not passing the Patriot Act.
This is what I mean about changing the imagery. I believe in hope over fear as well - but to me their is a greater fear in the American people over this economic crisis - because it is hitting each and everyone of them - versus the fear they had back when those buildings came down.
On the other hand - there was more fear in D.C. back in 2001 then there is today.
What we need to do is not put fear in the American people - because they feel it already. The fear that needs to be used is to put fear in the minds of Congress. Like maybe if they don't get off their dead asses and pass this thing - that the American people might not re-elect them next time. Maybe that would move them.

7. Fear that the American people will show up in DC if something is not done. |
|
Fear of the Angry Americans who have been fleeced by the very politicians who refuse to agree on a solution. 2 million folks in Dc on Inauguration Day was an easy, beautiful crowd. 2 million folks angry, hungry and homeless may mean something more to our Congress.
