Blue Dog Democrats threaten to walk away from the stimulus bill
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 02:40 PM by Thrill
Blue Dog Democrats threaten to walk away from the stimulus bill unless more "wasteful spending" is cut out.

Leaders of the 49-member coalition make the warning in a letter Thursday to Pelosi and Hoyer.

See this is what you have to deal with being a Democrat as President.

When people hear Obama talking about Bipartisan. Hes not just talking about Republicans. He knows he has to worry about his own party in Congress.

12. Obama has said that he wants the bill passed immediately.
So I don't think he would be with the blue dogs here.

22. In the current economic crisis, any expense that does not in the near term provide jobs in the basic
industries and critical infrastructure.

IMO there is a real danger of jobs in basic industries lost in the present recession being permanently outsourced when the economy eventually recovers to some more stable state.

One prime infrastructure example is repair of our interstate highways that need hundreds of billions if not several trillion dollars in maintenance.

I don't trust any politician, period and I want my two senators and congress-critter to protect the interests of their constituents, not special interests or party leaders' agendas.

What would you do to insure dollars are not misspent?

30. Do you favor the National Conference of Mayor's Infrastruture Project Plan? I do.
Take a look at it.

Republicans and some Democrats will attack it.

These are good "pork" projects if that's what some right-wingers want to call them.

It proposes 18,750 local infrastruture projects in 779 cities that will cost $150 billion dollars and create 1.6 million public works jobs. All of these projects can be started soon and completed before the end of 2010.

The reports give details on every project including a description of the job, its cost and how many people will be employed.

You can read what projects are proposed for your city.

Read it.

21. Last time I griped about Blue Dogs...
I was told how we have to let them represent their district. That we had to pick them to run because they could not win in the Southern areas unless we picked someone almost Republican to run. And I was told it was ok to get the other more progressive ones out of the race because they could not win in such areas.

It was the handpicked candidates of DCCC under Rahm, and now Van Hollen and the DSCC under Schumer who are comprising the majority of the Blue Dogs.

They were picked by our leadership because they wanted someone who like a Republican to win.

So now we have to live with them.

29. I Can Somewhat Understand That. There Was A Lot Of Unnecessary Pork In It.
This isn't the time for such pork, as the things being requested could be done at some other time. For the stimulus bill though, everything should be far more direct and immediately related. Much of the things weren't, and I can understand their outrage at it. Personally, I was quite disappointed myself that so much pork was stuffed into that bill. There's a time and a place, and this wasn't it.

is the other republican in the family.

I was thrilled when Obama took Sen. Salazar out of the senate. John is worse than Ken, but both have terrible judgment and can't make a move with out consulting the various D.C. clubs they belong to.

Gang of eight, gang of 4, Blue Dogs...

35. Welcome to "Pragmatic Centrism"
In the New Era of "Post-Partisanship",
being Half-Republican is a good thing.

NOW we have Your Children’s Money too !!!
And there is not a fucking thing you can do about it!
Now THIS is “Post-Partisanship” !
Better get used to it!!
Hahahahahahahahaha!

Too bad I am forever ALL Democrat, even if I am forced to find another Party to represent me.
Half-Republicans make me sick, and have destroyed the Democratic Party.

I noticed on another thread that they are now throwing the Poor and Unemployed under the bus.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone
