3. Do you think George W Bush would have held Laura's chair for her?
I doubt it. All Bush ever seemed to do to her is clutch her neck - that used to drive me crazy.

11. Yeah, after what he did to Angela Merkel, I could see him doing something stupid to Laura.

I wish Chancellor Merkel would have cock-punched the little bastard.

5. Wow, she looks so much like her mother in that first photo! And
there's our President, with his respect and good manners, pulling her chair out for her. Michelle is a very lucky woman - even if he hadn't become President.

Thank you Jackeens.

6. Thanks for those. I was wondering what she wore to
the prayer breakfast. I know we're not supposed to be interested in her wardrobe, but I am. I'm always interested in what anyone I like wears. Sue me. ;)

22. Poor Laura; all that money and no eye for what would flatter her...
And I mean that. I felt sorry for the woman, because there was no reason for her to look so dowdy.

23. I actually LIKED the way Laura Bush dressed. Kudos to the pantsuit!
The reason she didn't wear dresses often: If you notice when she did wear a dress, her legs were not a good feature. Plus, dresses are less practical when getting on and off Air Force One.

I really really liked the way Laura Bush dressed. She had a knockout figure, with big boobs, small waist, and generally well proportioned. And her pants outfits showed that off.

The one thing I did not like about her fashion was her evening attire. She didn't shine enough in that, it seems. But even there, she hit it out of the ball park a couple of times.

Same thing with Hillary. Some of the most bitchin' work clothes I've ever seen. Just gorgeous. And Sarah Palin's suits? Equally gorgeous.

I like Michelle's style the least, actually, except for her great use of color. Things like this blue dress....a killer. But the big misses, like the red and black election night dress....when she misses, she misses big.

30. I like pantsuits myself, for a variety of reasons--such as being the same age as Laura & Hillary...
With Laura Bush, however much I disliked the cattiness here about her clothing, I have to agree: those pantsuits looked like she ran them up on her Singer sewing machine using a Butterick pattern (to quote an oft-used DU phrase).

I'm sure she paid a bunch of bucks for those outfits, but they were ill-fitting. For the money, she could have had them tailored to her figure, which, as you point out, is good for her age.

I once watched a woman tailor pin up an off-the-rack party dress on a pretty but obese teenage girl, and it was like watching magic at work. The dress went from being okay to fitting this girl like a charm. Needless to say, I was very impressed.

So Mrs Bush had the ill-fitting suits, one after the other in the same mannish style. Add unflattering colors. No accessories that I can remember. I wonder if she was deliberately trying to stay in the background at all times? Maybe something to do with the man she was with?

Both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin were running for office and needed to pop in front the the camera. They chose accordingly -- and a lot of times Ms Sarah chose to show off those good legs of hers, as well as a flash of cleavage. She and Michelle are both much younger women than Laura and Hillary.

Michelle Obama isn't going to hog the limelight, since she's not the one running for something, but neither does she have to try to disappear. Michelle is 98% dead on with what looks good on her.

29. Two for one disasters. I don't understand how Repub women are so horribly dressed. Always.
Is it a dare among the designers to see what awful thing they can create and get these women
to wear it?

No taste. They have absolutely no taste. Zero.

33. The Bush Look...
Laura copied the Bush look from her mother-in-law who for the most part tries to copy the Queen of England. It works for the Queen of England. It doesn't seem to work for anyone else.

But they do drop the big bucks for the formal affairs. And usually have an elegant look about them. Barbara even wears the real pearls.

The comparison of Michelle Obama and Jacqueline Kennedy is not far off the mark. For the most part everything Jacqueline Kennedy wore was a copy. Made for her by dressmakers in New York who would buy the originals in Paris and come back and duplicate them for clients. And continued to do so even after she became Jacqueline Onassis.

It will be interesting to see how the "fasion show" unfolds. Oscar de la Renta has already taken a swipe at her. Mad that she didn't wear one of his gowns for the inaugural balls.

covers my fat ass, and the length of the trousers allows me to wear either flats or 3-inch heels. ;)

I'm quite interested in Michelle Obama's fashions, now that we have a First Lady with decent taste.

I found Hillary Clinton's pantsuit wardrobe great, too. When I was working full-time, I wore pantsuits all the time. I liked the way she wore one color (elongates the body, doesn't cut her in the middle and draw the eye to a horizontal rather than a vertical line) and dressed to downplay figure flaws. I found her taste and style quite flattering. And the colors flattered. And the necklace always was coordinated with the style and color of the outfit. I just like that kind of stuff. It's how I dress when I'm dressing up for business or some such thing.

I LOVE the way Michelle dresses. If I had her upper arms, I'd show them off with sleeveless sheaths like she does. And I like her color choices. New ones. New combinations. Magenta, purple, ochre, green accessories, gold, pale cream-yellow (not that loud yellow Oscar de la Renta outfit that cindy mcsame wore at the convention - that looked like the dress wore her instead of the other way around), print dresses, interesting and unique accessories. And midcalf black leggings under loose-fitting frocks - like that casual look! Stylish and comfortable-looking. That GORGEOUS gown she wore to the inaugural balls. BEAUTIFUL skin and skin tone, nicely toned muscles, and she's VERY aware of her height. Notice how often she wears flats - seems to do that, or wear low heels, whenever she's meeting the public. Don't know whether it's conscious or unconscious, but she obviously has an awareness of the power of height, and how she could be intimidating. I find that sensitivity EXTREMELY attractive.

And I appreciate that she's shining a spotlight on new American designers, local ones from her old stomping grounds in Chicago - who will now enjoy increased business. I think she's terrific! Finally, once more, a First Lady I can believe in. The last one was Hillary.
