What does bipartisanship even mean?
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 11:34 PM by margotb822
bi⋅par⋅ti⋅san
–adjective
representing, characterized by, or including members from two parties or factions

Ok, so technically one member of the opposition can work with the majority and it's bipartisan. That's not so helpful.

Well, I'll tell you what it doesn't mean. It doesn't mean capitulating to the bad ideas of a whiny minority. It doesn't mean begging them to come play with the majority. It doesn't mean abandoning the significant majority of the population for the losers.

It means, Republicans, quitcherbitchin. Obama's not going to come fondle your taint to get you to vote for the bill. You, Republican Party, are going to have to take steps closer to the majority because you are losers. Remember November? Remember when you suffered massive losses? Yea, that was the sign that you are not winners nor are your ideas. It's been said over and over, you had your eight years (closer to 28) and where are we now? 600,000 jobs shed in one week, two wars, damn near nationalized banks. And you want what?!

I don't give a witch's tit if you don't vote for this bill. That's your choice. And that's your decision to turn away from bipartisanship. Don't put this on anyone but yourselves.

10. I'm not disappoined yet
At least in Obama. I know this is probably bad, but I've come to realize that he's ahead of me on a lot of things.

Now, Congressional leadership could use some lions. We've got mice now. I wish someone would punch DeMint or Graham or Boner, er Boehner, in the head.

12. It depends...
when you're out of power, bipartisan means getting some of what you want that you wouldn't be able to get otherwise, when you're in power, it means giving up some of what you want, even though you don't have to.

Then of course there's the truly rare kind of bipartisanship, where everyone actually agrees on what needs to be done and how to do it, but I'm having trouble thinking of any examples of that rare bird.

13. I'm glad I found this thread. Read what repugs want to do.
It is apparent to me, and should be to you, that the party of greed, or the "little whining babies coalition" is really pissed they can't get their way. I'm serious. Rep. Sessions did an interview where he explicitly stated that his party should start acting like the "taliban" and tried to back away from his comment when pressed by the reporter. These people are clearly the biggest bunch of criminal bastards to walk in Washington.

If you think I'm making an emotional opinion piece here, then click the link and read the first couple of paragraphs of this story. They truly can't seem to handle the fact we threw their asses out of Congress.

I am pleased to see Mr. Obama taking off the gloves--in a sense--but he's going to have to do this on a regular basis until he understands these bastards are playing like its WWIII or something. They are insane!

14. Ideally, it means sane, smart people on both sides work for compromise and consensus
The Republican base is demanding that they dig in and concede nothing. This is probably great for Limpball's ratings, but the health of the GOP may very well suffer for this long term. People want action.
