The American people have been brainwashed. Time to shake ourselves out of the stupor.

It truly is amazing.

The economy is in free fall. Many people are working two jobs without medical benefits just to keep their heads above water. Companies are canceling pensions and health insurance for their retired (and current) workers. Food prices are astronomical. College is out of the question for a whole new generation of American kids. People are losing their homes. The cost of health care is bankrupting families. People who have saved and lived responsibly all of their lives are seeing their entire life savings wiped out for health care cost. They are taking EVERYTHING.

The struggles noosed around the American citizen's neck are growing tighter each day. Many will lose everything, some already have...

Given these circumstances, why aren't the American people up in arms? We have just watched hundreds of billions of dollars being given to the banks with virtually no strings, and they party on our dime pissing right in our faces. We have seen NO relief for our indebting the next two generations for this debt. Why on earth do we put up with this?

I think the obvious answer is that the problems seem so big, most people do not know what to do. Many believe that voting for Obama was the cure, not realizing that his placement in the executive office means little without massive and constant pressure from the American citizens to represent our interests.

Beyond that, I think we have live in this warped and broken system so long, we just accept it as the way it is...But, it does NOT have to be this way and we CAN change it, if only we speak out and show up and say I AM AS MAD AS HELL & I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE...

We should DEMAND health care for all (not health insurance for all, we are trying it here in MA & it is not financially feasible. It will be bankrupt in two years - plus if you are over 55 & get health care through the state, they get ALL our your assets when you die, your house and every penny you ever worked for...disgusting).

We should DEMAND ownerships in the banks WE finance.

We should DEMAND all CEO's presiding over failed companies be fired and never allowed to work in an executive position again.

We should DEMAND our money be used for OUR needs.

It distresses me to no end when I see people on this democratic board talking about how their is no way we can have a single payer universal health care system. One of the most crucial keys to fixing the economy.

We have been hit hard. We must fight back every day.

Enough is enough.

1. That's because alot of americans have been convinced by
propaganda radio that single payer health care is bad the country. Right wingers have successfully brainwashed a significant portion of america. Alot of people with health care are selfish.

5. I'll paraphrase what I wrote yesterday to a similar post. Too
many people still have jobs. However menial or diminished, they are just glad to be working. They are NOT, I repeat, NOT going to risk the loss of their jobs to demand ANYTHING. When unemployment reaches DOUBLE DIGITS, THEN, you might see something. MAYBE.

15. Of course, REAL unemployment is already in double digits -
it's only the doctored government figures that say it's at 7 1/2%. If it was figured as it was in the 80s, it would be 11% - and by 1930s reckoning it would be 15%.

Propaganda wins again.

6. For me its the VOICE that we don't have - We need a leader & last night I think Obama found his!
I am 100% behind President Obama's outspoken truth on the issue! We must let him know that we want this kind of "voice" out there often and with passion! CA is near a breaking point that I think will bring out millions and this won't go quietly into the night I fear! The have and have-not's are getting wider and wider apart.

I am right with you - Hopefully once this terrible winter weather is out of here we can band together more!

8. His speech made me get off my duff and call my Senators. They're among
the ones who need to be convinced and I just hadn't bothered to find out which way they were leaning. So when he took the gloves off last night it forced me to take action. Moveon.org had sent me an email about them, but I hadn't even read it until last night.

So, count me as one of those who was in a stupor. I'm glad I snapped out of it.

10. I did the same thing yesterday. Luckily most here in Ohio are for progress but then there's Boehner
He just made an insertion on his website that the "American people don't want the Stimulus package".

He referenced this report from Rasmussen Reports poll even though if you read on 64% of Dems support the plan:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulus_package/support_for_stimulus_package_falls_to_37

Support for Stimulus Package Falls to 37%
Wednesday, February 04, 2009

(snip)

Sixty-four percent (64%) of Democrats still support the plan. That figure is down from 74% a week ago. Just 13% of Republicans and 27% of those not affiliated with either major party agree.

Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans oppose the plan along with 50% of unaffiliated voters and 16% of Democrats.

........

Boehner makes me ill........:puke:

7. We have been strongly encouraged to be spectators
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 12:08 PM by KurtNYC
Fed a constant diet of sensational bullshit. On the Right, they are too uncreative and unmotivated to do more than listen to Rush do their bell-aching for them. He supplies reasons (the wrong ones)for their free floating anger. On the Left, we listen to Jon Stewart make a joke out of every horrible thing that has happened for the last 8 years.

We have come to accept whining and laughing as action -- but they are the actions of spectators. Americans, in the aggregate, are now merely spectators who laugh and whine at our own demise while doing pretty much nothing to stop it.

14. In order to fight back...
...we would have to be at least somewhat united.

Unfortunately, the bottom 75% of the population continue to fight one another, rather than the ruling classes.

The media monopolies have successfully demonized anything of a populist nature as "leftist" or "socialist" or "communist". I'll never forget the look on a coworker's face when I (in passing) stated that I am of the leftist persuasion (we were talking about where I had lived before moving here -- Berkeley, California). It was a look of shock, as though "I can't believe you said that out loud".

So the obvious solutions to at least some of our woes -- strong unions, single payer universal health care, government spending, welfare, food stamps, social spending instead of military spending, peace mongering instead of war mongering -- all of these programs are pre-tainted in the minds of a propagandized population.

And our Democrats have let it happen, have been complicit. They're scared to death to stand for anything, so they've stood by while unions were eroded, while schools were de-funded, while health care became a huge fiasco, while defense (read: offense) spending increased, while the prison system became bloated, et cetera.

Our only chance is that the population snaps out of it and starts seeing where their true interests lie. Maybe when enough working class right wingers start to need food stamps and enough religious zealots need jobs and the like, maybe the extremes will move together and start to realize where the true political center is.

It certainly is not inside the beltway of DC.

18. have you watched the tv lately? in other countries
people are out rioting in the streets. what is it going to take to get that going on here. because it seems that that is what it is going to come down to to get anything done here. I mean, it seems the governments over there are scared of the people. it sure doesn't seem that our government even notices us.

hey... they want to cut some spending??? how much does the health insurance the congress enjoys and we pay for cost? maybe congress needs a pay CUT too. do we pay for cars for them or drivers or anything?? because all that 'wasteful spending' should be the first thing to go.

22. Step one: Kill your tv.
Remember that old saying about hippys? Turn on,tune in,drop out. That wasn't describing hippys. It described the TV culture that was taking over the country at the time. And that is exactly what happened.People turned on their televisions, tuned into their favorite programming channel and dropped out of society.

Step Two:Plant a community garden.Build a sweat lodge/sauna.Hang s tire from a tree.Organize holiday activitys.Provide an oppurtunity for kids to interact with animals.Organize cooking contests.Meet with nieghbors regugarly to address community problems.Help a lost animal,Open your curtains.Promote regular bonfires.Try to understand an angry nieghbor.Provide a safe haven for teenagers.Encourage nieghborhood collaborations.Ride a bike.Help nieghbors in need.Organize nieghborhood potlucks.Support nieghborhood businesses.

In other words:GET INVOLVED!!!

29. You have heard correctly: we will not have govt paid universal health care anytime soon.
That is the reality.

Dreams are fine for children, but when we grow up, we must deal with realities.

The best way to improve the health care system is to modify and build on what is in existence. That is easier for people to go along with, AND while it is extremely expensive, it costs a lot less than changing an entire system.

Also...whenever you change an entire system from one thing to another, big problems ensue. The transition is smoother when you're dealing with a modification of an existing system.

Capiche?
