That being said, I think passing the stimulus is important enough to take that risk. Yes, we might lose a few Blue Dogs in both chambers, but we have simple majorities in each. I never thought I would be saying this, but it's time to focus on the here and now and forget about what it may cost us in the future. It's that important.

1. You mean letting the Republicans filibuster against the bill?

Let them!

2. Well... yeah! That's why this rule still exists
Republicans are thanking their lucky stars that they never followed through on the "nuclear option"

3. I'm believing this will work. My main support for that belief is that the closer it gets
to passing, the harder and more aggressively the pukes fight for it to fail. This is enormously telling. They keep changing their argument. Today the meme is that Government jobs don't create wealth. The fact that everyday their complaints are shifting is a sign that they are trying very hard to stall and derail this bill by any means possible because they are terrified it will not only pass, but that when it does, it will actually WORK! When that happens, they are SOL for the next good chunk of years and we are in firm control of things.

Get this done. Pass this bill and get onto the next issue!!

4. We will always be screwed when we are in the Minority.
There was a great Rolling Stone article a few years back that went into detail how ruthless the 'pubs were when they were the majority, down to cutting mikes and the lights off to rooms where the Dems were meeting in the capitol. I say nuke the fuckers!!!

5. You know what? If we (Dems in Congress) are inept
enough to allow themselves to become a minority again, they are SCREWED no matter what. "Bipartisanship" is for Democrats. Repubs don't give a flying fuck about anything except themselves.

12. Hammer meet nail! Bi-partisanship is an effing joke!
Time to force the Democratic agenda down these a-holes' throats! Enough hand-wringing and whimpering by Reid, Pelosi, Feinstein, etc.

6. I think we have enough for cloture
I think both Snowe and Collins are on board with us. That would be enough unless a senate Dem were to turn on us.

7. And if "we" don't get them on board by cutting badly needed programs what terrible thing will happen
The Republicans will filibuster?

So what?

Let them?

And in turn we can roast them over the coals as obstructionists who don't care if the economy slides into a depression that they caused!

8. Snowe's not terrible, but I don't trust Collins at all. Not confident in Ben Nelson either.

9. Yes, I'm sure the Repubs will be sweet as pie if they regain the majority
as long as we don't "act out."

10. I was against nuclear then, and I am now.
I truly believe that the Senate is supposed to slow down legislation. Even if used improperly, the filibuster is a very important part of our government and needs to stay.

I refuse to change my mind just because it'd be convenient. And I don't buy the "emergency" part of the argument either - emergencies can be used as justifications all the time.
