3. The Republicans will pay for that.
That was probably the worse thing to be advertised as having been "cut".

It will be brought back in the conference.

President Obama will be campaigning throughout the country to make sure of that.

2. If that's what it took for rethugs to agree to the stimulus, I think it makes
them look a lot more culpable than Reid.

11. That is really CUTE considering that almost all repug governors
are literally slashing education funds at the state level.

Why do they want to spread their corporatism to education? Why do they think that it's good to profit at the risk of our kids?

Sheesh!! All they see is $$$$. They are blinded by $$$$.

12. Stay classy, pukes. Unbelievable they don't see the benefit of education spending.
Attempting to work with these people is like throwing a rock against a sponge wall and expecting it to bounce back. Obama will surely make them own this next week in his speech and Town Hall tour.

13. How soon the Republicans forget about children like Trigg Palin.
How they fawned over him. What a farce. They don't, and probably never did, give a shit about special education for special children. You'd think we'd hear Palin screaming about this, but we won't. If it isn't about their own child, they don't care. Trigg's too young for "education" so who cares. Cut away.

The party of family values. :puke:

16. This is NOT The Final Bill, People!
It is only the SENATE'S version. It now goes to a conference committee with the Hosue -- and Pelosi has already said the education funds are NOT going to be cut.

Add to that the fact that Obama's going on the TV with a prime-time presser and two town hall meetings next week and the fact that Repunks are now being The Party That Hates Special Ed, the stage should be set -- if WE do our thing by burning up the phone lines -- to get a bill closer to the House's bill.

Because, as OpenLeft is reporting, the Senate only needs 50 votes to pass a bill that comes out of conference committee. And it can't be filibustered.

This is a procedural move to keep the process going, and as Obama's been doing, he's gotten the Repunks to think, Black-Knight-like, that they're winning the debate when in fact they're bleeding from their festering stumps.

Stay on the phones. There's one more round to go and we should still have the advantage ...

17. It will be said that education had to be cut for Republicans to allow the bill to pass
Well, well, well.

I have a feeling those cuts will be restored in this bill or another.

And I have a feeling, this news will hurt Republicans more than Reid.

18. That Sucks
The key failure of Reid and other Democrats was that they didn't properly frame the stimulus package. The republicans were able to frame the package as full of pork and the Democrats didn't do enough to counteract the Republicans message. They were so ineffective that many posters even on DU thought the bill was full of pork. To be fair part of the problem was the media, because there were a few strong Democratic voices out there, but not enough to counteract the framing of the Republicans and the media.

21. The very next thing I would do
would be to put together a Save the Schools bill. (For god's sake don't call it a stimulus.) Then I would push all the problems schools are having, etc. I would run ads 24/7.

Other good bills that include education can be done at a less panicked state

That's why I would be ready to shove just an education bill down their throats. It's not just teacher's jobs either. Class sizes are increasing, etc. Make it hurt the Rethugs if they won't support it..

31. Absolutely. I'm a teacher, and a special ed teacher at that. Things look very grim
without the help form this stimulus. Luckily Claire McCaskill is one of my senators, but Kit Bond is the other. I've been trying to call him ALL damn day but the line is busy. His office probably took it off the hook. I emailed though.
