Valerie (can't spell her last name) starts with J, she lost her nephew on 9/11 and she said that when USS Cole/911 families tried to get a meeting with Bush, he rejected them flat, but Obama met with them for a long time, she said, the longest meeting he had today. That shit made me cry, man. Obama is such a good man.

1. That pisses me off, but makes me love President Obama even more.
If that is possible. People, we have an exceptional President. I know things look bad, but this man will triumph because he knows what is right, and DOES IT. It makes me cry, too, and it shouldn't. FUCK Bush!

3. Incredible, huh? Having a Constitutional lawyer / President speaking so openly about
what he will do, why he will do it, and explaining what we will gain from such an approach. She was the third person I have seen speak out today about their experience with Obama, and all of them have been very impressive.

4. It's politically imperative he meet with relatives of COLE victims because he's catching...
shit for closing Gitmo and releasing some folks people think are associated with the COLE bombing.

It's not because he "is such a good man."

7. It was politicallly imperative for Bush to do it also, but he chose not to
Obama did. So in my book, that makes him a good man.

8. I've never heard of Bush refusing to meet COLE victims, especially since it...
didn't happen on his watch.

Believe you me, as someone who has spent a good amount of time at Bethesda Naval and Walter Reed, I'd like to tar him with that one, but that one just doesn't stick.

It's great Obama gave them some time, whether or not Bush did so.

But, stupid people are on Obama's ass for releasing some prisoners and closing Gitmo. The COLE has been mentioned specifically.

9. those STUPID PEOPLE are families of USS Cole/911 victims
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:49 PM by EraOfResponsibility
and they deserve a bit more respect than that. But that's okay, President Obama understands that, even if you don't. And how fucking DARE YOU imply that Obama would do something like that for political reasons and not because he actually CARES what these people (not all of whom AGREE with his gitmo decision) thinks! gtfohwtbs you're talking. Oh, and PS, genius...the woman who spoke with Keith tonight on countdown SAID HERSELF that Bush REFUSED to meet with Cole victims families. So know what the hell you're talking about before you spout off nonsense.

12. I should respect people that want us to keep Gitmo open and people in jail unjustly?
READ. The families of COLE victims are not whom I referred to as being "stupid."

I come from a military family, so back off on that one.

11. * Came in right after the Cole bombings
It didn't happen on his watch but it was up to him to prosecute the suspects. He chose not to.

The only time he really met with military men and women usually injured was for photo ops. And if the Cole supsects prosecuation records are in such a state as the Gitmo suspects then all is lost. It's a no win situation.

I do have this question that I haven't really heard. The Repugs are so worried about these men getting out and going back to Al Quida and possibly killing someone.

What is so different than US prisons on a daily basis letting murderers out on US streets? I don't see the Repugs up in arms about that....

13. Actually, as much as I dislike Prez Bush, he did meet with families without cameras.
The mental/emotional disconnect that made it possible for him to do so baffles me. I can't imagine how he could meet with people killed in his unnecessary war.

18. I don't think it matters under whose watch the attack occured.
If they wanted to speak with the president (Bush or Clinton) what reason would there have been for not doing so?

20. The COLE bombing happened toward the END of Clinton's watch...
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 10:11 PM by rateyes
His team put together plans for the Bush administration, and laid the plan on Bush's desk, to do something about it. Bush.Did.Nothing. And, THAT'S why that SOB (yes, his mother is a bitch) wouldn't meet with those families. He was willing, way before 9/11 to let the COLE incident slide. He's a piece of shit.

Bush talked about wanting to shut down GITMO, as well. He was asked MANY TIMES by the families to speak with them. He refused. That's because he's a fucking coward. Obama, though he has NO OBLIGATION to talk with those families has the DECENCY to do it, and won't HIDE behind his office desk. That's because HE IS A GOOD MAN.

Have you ever written one positive word about Obama? Or, are you still smarting over the primaries?

shoulders. If this country does not prosecute I hope some other country will step up and put alot of pressure on those who will let this slide.

Those people can agree or disagree with Obama. That's their right and each of them is entitled to their own views. But President Obama has given them something in his first two weeks that they've been begging from Bush for years -- a face-to-face meeting. I sincerely hope that helps them feel like they're being heard, whatever their overall views.

God bless.
