I've thought about this and I have come to realization that while the republicans are evil, they aren't always stupid. I think the reason they are dragging their feet on this bill or making every effort to stop it is NOT because they fear the bill and the spending will hurt America, it's not because they truly believe that Tax cuts for the rich are the only way to go.
The real reason is that the GOP is in the shitter and they are staring down the barrel at 4 to possibly 8 years with an extremely popular president who they have recognized as someone who will actually bring us out of the dark place that Bush and his cronies sank us into.
The Repubs know that if and when this stimulus package passes that America will start on it's road to recovery and the last thing they want is to watch as a democrat succeeds in cleaning up their failure. It would be a crushing blow to their party to have Obama presidency be an overwhelming success. After 8 years with a president with such low approval ratings, and the stigma of lies, torture, corruption, greed and economic collapse as their current legacy, they can't afford to let anything good come from the democrats.
So I suspect all this grand standing, fake outrage and obstructive behavior is going to continue well beyond this stimulus Bill. I fear we're in for a long fight as this President works his ass off to clean up the aftermath from the last 8 years while the republicans stand around him playing keep away with the broom.
The Republican party has and never will care for the American people. They care about one thing... POWER. And since they are lacking said power, they are gonna act like little children having a tantrum over not getting a cookie and will continue to make Obama's life hell just hoping they will get their precious power back soon.
What's sick to think about this is that the republicans don't give a shit how bad this country gets as long as in the end they get what they want. I read a few posts through out the day where DU posters called for the Dems to just call the GOP's bluff. I couldn't agree more. I hoped that Obama could get the bi-partisanship relationships he was working for, but it doesn't look like the GOP is willing to listen to reason or even the cries for help from their own constituents.
So Fuck em' !
Dems' should do what they want and make it abundantly clear who's to blame when or if things fail. Maybe then the GOP will grow the hell up and start acting like professionals working for the best interest of this country.
