Today she is on the tax cuts and how they are only in the bill to woo republicans.

But, doesn't she remember (or Rachel for that matter) that Obama promised tax cuts to the middle and lower classes.

Maybe the left should be spinning this as "we caved" but I would like a discussion that was intelligent.

Cable TV has gotten bad. Schuster is the only one who is intelligent enough to cut through the crap.

20. I use it liberally with several pundits.
To regularly lie and mislead the American people without any shame or gaul is worthy of my ire and I have no problems saying. That doesn't mean I'd hurt them as they are free to say what they want in this country (and thankfully the forefathers instilled that into law)...however that doesn't mean I still don't have problems. Not defending the OP as I have no clue who Joan Walsh is, currently, however I understand where s/he is coming from.

6. I really like Joan Walsh.
She has aggravated in me for the last year by:

1. Treating that assassination comment in the primary like it was like a figure of speech. I could honestly say her attitude made me as frustrated as I felt when the Dick Armey went after her on Hardball this week/last week.

2. Acting as if her opinion on what Obama needs to do is the sole interpretation on the matter. I generally agree with her point of view but I find the sincere self righteousness more than I could take on an hour by hour basis.

Righteous indignation and moral piety is a difficult standard to meet and/or overcome in any person or circumstance. Turn that piety down a tad. It wears thin on the long haul.

I agree with the other people, hate is too strong in most political arguments.

9. Maybe she thinks the tax cuts are a pointless
and wasted expense. Maybe she thinks that they are too large a portion of the package. Maybe she thinks that they are so large because we wanted the republicans on board. Maybe she thinks they won't help now anymore than they did when they were bush's idea.

If so I agree with her. She and I have a right to think this if we want and to express that opinion. I didn't see any whining in the piece. She is a strong supporter of Obama, as I am. We just don't think that the post-partisan stuff is working. From Obama's speech yesterday, it doesn't seem like he thinks so either. Plus the fact that he is putting a reduction on the tax cuts on the negotiating table indicates that he agrees with Joan that this carrot didn't work. If he will use cutting them as a stick to prod the republicans, that would indicate that they were there as woo-bait.

I like that idea. If the republicans and phony Democrats want to trim a couple of hundred billion from the package, start with the tax cuts. They are the least productive portion.

11. that may be true but it was dishonest of her not to bring up Obama's promise
and making it sound like he is a wimp. That's fine IF she mentions he promised tax cuts when he was elected.

The "left wing" media is setting us up. For reasons I'll never understand.

12. In this case the left wing media is
just disagreeing with the strategy of wooing republicans. Not just now, but also when he campaigned. It was just as much a sop to the republicans then an as now.

I agree with the part of his speech that said we have tried the republican strategies and methods. We know they don't work. Pointless tax cuts are just that. We tried 'em. They didn't work. And including them didn't get a single vote from the republicans.

21. wow, and I thought I was cynical.
I don't know how offering tax cuts to the poor helped him woo the GOP but whatever.

Obama does not think he can get along with the current crop of GOP leaders. That's just rhetoric to show Americans who the bad guys are. It's too hard/impossible for the GOP to scream about dems being just as bad as they are when Obama appears all nice and stuff.

10. She does whine......
She was calling our President Obambi, in other words. She doesn't yet understand that what the President has to do is 1000X as hard as what she does. Still, she really believes that she could do a better job, when that is just not the case. She is confusing President Obama with President Bush....still.

13. That is so silly.
And way beneath the thinking I know you can do. Give up the crush and help support Obama with proof we will tell him what we believe, not what some think is defense of his "fragile" self. He's a tough, Chicago politician who has said he wants to hear from all sides. Pom Poms and Yes men not needed.

29. SOP
Whine and then say that people who disagree with you are whiners. See you did learn something from the republican campaign. Blaming others for your faults is classic RNP.

But, I'm sorry for telling you what to do. You are right. You can do whatever you want. It may be unproductive and pointless, but you get to do it anyway.

28. Shuster's good, but he needs to sort of bag the verbal tics.
For example, he uses "sort of" in almost every sentence. It's less common than the "you know" tic, but I still get sort of tired of it.

24. even if I agree with her on certain points
I find her annoying, only because I think she's done kind of a shitty job selling the stimulus when I've seen her debating it with Repukes, so there's plenty of blame in the messaging to go around. I mean, I know it's the Democrats' job, but Rachel on the other hand has a way of breaking everything down in crisp terms that get the point across.I wish that she was a Democratic surrogate appearing on shows and not Joan.

I really disliked how she would hyper-obsess on Obama's so call faults during the primary but that's what they are paid to do. Perhaps she's still miffed that HRC is not leading this country? Who the hell knows for sure.
