RNC Chairman Steele's Campaign Spending Questioned By Federal Agents
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 11:11 AM by ClarkUSA
New RNC chief arranged for '06 Senate campaign to pay defunct company run by sister for services never performed, ex-aide tells federal prosecutors.

Michael S. Steele, the newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, arranged for his 2006 Senate
campaign to pay a defunct company run by his sister for services that were never performed, his finance chairman
from that campaign has told federal prosecutors.

Federal agents in recent days contacted Steele's sister, a spokesman for Steele said yesterday.

The claim about the payment, one of several allegations by Alan B. Fabian, is outlined in a confidential court document.
Fabian offered the information last March as he was seeking leniency for himself during plea negotiations on unrelated
fraud charges. It is unclear how extensively his claims have been pursued. Prosecutors gave him no credit for cooperation
when he was sentenced in October.

Steele spokesman Curt Anderson said he did not know what information the federal agents were seeking, but he dismissed
Fabian's allegations as patently false.... Fabian's claims emerge as Steele begins his new role at the RNC, where he oversees
the raising and spending of hundreds of millions of dollars in party money. The former Maryland lieutenant governor has
faced questions about his handling of campaign money in prior elections and was twice fined for missing filing deadlines.

So now the titular head of the Republican Party is being investigated for corruption by the Feds. What a fun development.
I hope the MSM will cover this in the same way they would if the DNC Chairman had been fingered for doing the same
thing.

2. yeah, like they covered Palin's tax problem
with the same vitriol and blood sniffing as they did Daschle..oh, wait, Palin's tax problems were never even in the media.

Perhaps it's up to us "nasty bloggers" to make sure it gets some attention.

Coleman is still running around and the msm isn't talking about the FBI probe. What's up with that?

3. He also used every ugly racist and fraudulent trick known to the GOP
to get elected. I heard an interview, maybe on Hartmann, where all the crap he did to get elected was layed out in detail. The guy is just another typical GOP thug.

As it is, we are too busy kicking our own President's ass to worry about putting away the real turds and assholes.

13. It was fun. I watched him on This Week twisting himself into a preztel trying to explain this.
Stephanopoulos looked skeptical while Steele talked a mile a minute with a completely unbelievable explanation.

17. We need to drag this story real nice and slow so that it explodes in late 2009
It would be better that have the story explode into smithereens in February 2010 so that GOP fundraising efforts are absolutely crippled.

who President Obama was thinking about appointing Surgeon General. If we can have 50 threads on that, why not on this?

19. Let's see if this gets as much coverage as Daschle and the tax
issue, as Caroline and whether or not she would be good for New York. I would be stunned if the MSM covers this much this week.
