Look at how bad things are, and how long this could last based on past recessions. Then look at what the (nearly) united Republican party is using to stop the stimulus bill. It's minuscule compared to the whole bill, yet they are willing to use this thinnest of excuses to destroy our only hope of staving off a calamity.

So do they hate America, and want to destroy us, or do they hate Obama so much they are willing to sacrifice our country in order to see him fail?

Appearing on Meet the Press, House Minority Leader John Boehner criticized the recovery package for including $21 million to re-sod the National Mall as well as $200 million for contraceptives.2 On Face the Nation, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell mentioned $600 million going to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees and $150 million for honeybee insurance.3 Senator John McCain questioned a $50 million provision for the National Endowment for the Arts on CNN's American Morning.4 And on Fox News Sunday, Senator Jon Kyl criticized a program that would provide benefits to World War II veterans in the Philippines.

Republican leaders also released a longer list of provisions they viewed as 'wasteful' to the media, including $6 billion to make federal buildings more energy-efficient and $1.2 billion for "youth activities," including summer jobs programs.

The republicans are essentially criticizing .05% of the bill. Be it condoms, or STD prevention, or even school rebuilding. Out of a 800 billion dollar bill, they are criticizing where mere millions are being apportioned. How anyone is taking them seriously, including the President, is beyond me.

Their vision of the US is a dream of the Gilded Age, when money and power were held by the few, and the notion is that because they have money and power, they must be "better" than other citizens. It is a ridiculous notion to be sure, but they honestly believe they can "show" others the "best way to live". This is not the Republican party of yore, this is a bastardized version that has nothing but greed driving it.
