Democrats - "in for a penny, in for a pound"
Edited on Sun Feb-08-09 02:32 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
Meaning if you are willing to take on risk for a reward, it is worth it to take on a larger risk for a larger reward. A "penny ante" is hardly worth the effort in terms of what reward will be reaped. You commit to the outcome or you don't.

Democrats have allowed themselves to be negotiated into a heads they win, tails we lose corner due to their lack of courage and conviction to make the large, visionary injections of dollars necessary to re-vitalize the economy. They are being bullied by a lying, self-serving minority that has lost overwhelmingly in the last 2 elections and by the same irresponsible press that cheer leaded us into illegal war.

Now, get back in there and do your job and create a bill that is large enough and smart enough to get aid to the people and the states that need it. In the words of Admiral Farragut - Damn the Torpedos! Full speed ahead!

1. I always thought that phrase to mean something else.
Which is, that if you're even tangentially involved with an enterprise then you're just as culpable/responsible for what happens as the major players.

I've heard the phrase used in crime movies and spy thrillers to blackmail people or keep them from going to the police.

But I agree with your sentiment! This is a struggle between fear and courage. Buck up and do your jobs, Congress!!! What do you have to lose?

2. It can mean that and it can mean the way that I posted it
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/in_for_a_penny,_in_for_a_pound

The alternate saying for your meaning is "hanged for a sheep as well as a lamb" (more British) that means might as well go for the bigger booty if the penalty is the same.

5. Problem in the senate is that we're getting screwed by four "moderates"
Collins, Liebermen, Ben Nelson, and Specter watered this shit down, leaving us with crap that will be branded as "Democrat" but the insides of it are Republican entrails.
