Just went to a right leaning site I used to post at, and they are doing a call bank
on the stimulus. There is a concerted effort on the right, to jam the lines with their POV only, and that includes news lines also.

We knew how to do it with the Obama campagin online, reaching voters. We need to now do it again, but this time elected officials . They are going to fight us every inch of the way, even if it is not in their best interest in order to impact 2010.

We won the election, but that is just the start. We need to keep focused and keep jamming our elected officials, and not let them steal the message AGAIN

1. I'm not going to play dueling phone calls with a bunch of ditto heads.
Didn't we just have an election? Can't the Democrats see through this?

4. Not really, the American Public has seemed so fickle, that
politicians respond to who is the last person yapping in their ear.. that is just a reality..one of the downfalls of democrats and the democratic party is our getting tired of hanging in their and battling.

Our ideas are worth the time and effort..

Remember it is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease!

13. You better, we aren't done
What is it about grassroots bottom up organizing and hard work for change that people don't understand.

22. Thing is, the "news" media reports it as public opinion
To them, the fact that Freepers have more spare time on their hands to endlessly bombard them with phone calls equates to Americans being overwhelmingly opposed to the stimulus.

2. Agreed. I already called both of my Senators and will again today. They tried to argue with me,
but "eight years of failed policies aren't going to suddenly start working when they're the problem in the first place..." shut them right up with a barely heard whimper of: "I'll pass your stance on to the senator." ~ Yeah, right!

7. Thank you, and I know what you mean..
They have not heard so much from our side, and are kind of taken back when we call in. In a strange way, that makes any full out push that we do, that much more effective I hope

3. Thanks but, unlike Republicans apparently, I have to work.
Those people are pretty freaking pathetic.

If they have that much spare time, why not get out and do something for their community instead?

5. I completely understand, I have to work also..
But we do not have to call and write every day, but we do have to stay involved. :)

9. Oh absolutely.
But it doesn't seem that these people are going to be giving feedback to their own representatives, but rather that they are going to be targeting ALL representatives, thus preventing actual constituents from getting through.

That, IMO, is not democracy in action.

11. Well I look at it this way, my call jammed one of theirs
and hopefully, Grassley gets the message, that all of Iowa is NOT supporting his point of view. He actually said that last week..that all of Iowa was against the stimulus...

so your community has some money to pay the teachers and cops. You've got a break and a lunch time.

15. Barack Obama did not ask me to jam the phone lines of Capitol Hill....
...pretending to be a constituent when I am not.

That is an obstruction of democracy, and I'm not interested in taking part.

And who said anything about pretending to be a constituent? Are you not a US citizen?

17. Hopefully we will call our own representatives..
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 10:55 AM by Peacetrain
I think that is part of the democratic process.

Let me edit this to add:

The right is phone banking out of their own areas, and we have to fight back in our areas to keep our reps aware of who they are representing. I am willing to fight tooth and nail here in Iowa, to keep Alaska right wingers out of Iowa buisness.

21. Call Casey too
Call your Congressperson too. Call the local offices and the DC office. Call everybody who you worked with on the campaign, and tell them to call too. We have to stay organized if we're going to make any significant change.

6. Huckabee was pushing that last weekend
Poor Obama is going to have to fight his way through his term just like Carter and Clinton did. If it isn't one thing, it's another.

I've never seen such asses and I think they truly believe they are right.

8. As long as they think they are the only voices being heard in DC
they will believe that, the only thing that ever brings them up short to even take a nanosecond to re look at something is when they hear, that people are calling on the other side. They have gotten so used to theirs being the only voice.

10. What a smirking ass Huckabee is..and he's got the religious right
kissing it.

I think a phone bank is too premature, next week with the compromise House/Senate bill maybe.

23. Now There's A Poll To Reflect
how out of touch the GOP is on the "recovery" program. So, they can jam, but the GOP knows their disapproval ratings are 58% now. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/02/poll-obama-w...

Jamming the phones won't change the reality.
