Obama: I would like to see Education cuts made by senate in stimulus restored

In the townhall just now, he was talking about WHY education was included and how important it was to the stimulus. He talked about how the *senate* cut it and that he would like it restored.

1. I think alot of the Senate cuts will be back in conference.

2. If that is the case, what is the motivation for moderate Republicans

to work with him on legislation in the future?

3. It will still have some things that repubs added to it.

And, further....who cares? They are obstructionists. Had they bargained in good faith, then maybe there would be a reason to compromise. We saw what happened in the House.

5. Collins bargained in good faith

The 58 votes (assuming Franken joins the Senate, all Democrats, one independent, and one Socialist vote the same) are not enough to have free hand on major issues and the Obama administration will have to count on a few moderate Republican votes. It is not a good idea to shiv Collins, Snowe, and Specter so early.

6. They won't be getting shived. What they are getting is partial ownership

of the bill to save jobs. The American people are on the side of the Dems and Obama. We want action and success. If the repubbies have any sense or desire to stay relevant and in Congress, they will join us.

4. He's giving them the rope to hang themselves with.

He's always two steps ahead. He knew he had to appease at least a handful of them to legally get the bill through, but once the stimulus plan actually works, it will be the republicans who look like obstructionist filth (as if they don't already), and then he'll have the capital to pass anything he wants.

7. Love the Town Hall approach

and this is the only way he can get things done..taking it to the peeps like he did in his campaign. Education is a must and one of Obamas and Bidens passions.
