They can do nothing else because if they lose what is already a dwindling base, all of the GOP Congresscritters lose their cushy jobs.

Expect more losses for the GOP in 2010. Most of those will come from districts where they "base" gets pissed at an incumbent and then puts up a mouthbreather who wins the primary.
