Sen. Bernie Sanders has added his name to the growing list of congressmen touting former Gov. Howard Dean to head up the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In a letter to President Barack Obama, Sanders says Dean's experience as a governor and medical doctor make him "eminently qualified" for the key cabinet post.
"As you well know, reforming our health care system will not be easy," Sanders wrote. "It will take somebody with determination and focus to lead that effort. I think that Howard Dean is that person."
Sanders joins fellow Vermont congressman Peter Welch in endorsing Dean for the job. Sen. Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat, and Reps. Raul Grijalva, an Arizona Democrat., and Alan Grayson a Florida Democrat, also have urged Obama to nominate the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
