1. It's only wasteful if democrats' homes are burning.
If it's a republican district then NO, it's necessary.

6. May the state of Arizona have a massive heat wave this summer. . .
and run out of water and personnel to fight the inevitable fires.

8. Repukes: It's not wasteful spending if it's for fire depts. in IRAQ!
For the past 8 years, they've been for every kind of infrastructure spending plan that came down the pike... as long as it was for Iraq and not the U.S.

Roads, bridges, schools, health care... you name it. Everything that's in this bill and then some... only not for THIS country.

Hell, they'd probably even support the spending on family planning and honey bee research, as long as it was for Iraqi families and Iraqi bees.

That really needs to be how we frame the GOP discontent with Obama's recovery plan. And stop letting them paint themselves as penny-pinchers and brave defenders of the tax payers' dollar.

12. Wasteful? No. Effective as stimulus? No.
Kyl does have something of a point. The stimulus funds should be geared towards initiatives that provide an immediate and measurable boost to a community's local economy. I'd rather see the money spent on (to use a local example) a long-delayed water and sewer line construction project than on various wish list items for the fire department, where the money goes out of town and stays there.
