4. You're right. In all his years first as a community organizer in the South Side of Chicago,

then as a lawyer focusing on employment law in the South Side, then as a State Senator representing a poor South Side district, he had never come across poor urban people before. Maybe that will cause him to rethink his entire political philosophy.

I was just really affected by seeing Henrietta, that's all.

And another thing that's sort of bugging me about Obama's answer to her. He said "I'm going to do everything I can to help you, but there are many others like you..."

"but"? Why would you say "but" anything?

Am I being over-emotional here?

PS: sort of a defense of my OP, yes, Obama did encounter homelessness during his time as a community organizer, but like any human, he forgets. Perhaps meeting Henrietta reminded him. After all, he has been talking a lot about the middle class in this country, but not saying much about the poor.

He had to be truthful about the fact that there are a lot more out there like her, and in even worse situations than she is in. If he did something for just this lady do you know how many people would scream about it?

He's making them marginalize themselves, as I've said elsewhere, and thus neutralizing their ability to block him.
