UGH Check out the conference committee
The senators who are members of the conference are Reid, Max Baucus, D-Mont., Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, Thad Cochran, R-Mo., and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. The House is sending Reps. David Obey, D-Wis., Charles Rangel, D-N.Y, Henry Waxman, D-Calif., Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., and Mike Camp, R-Mich.

I like seeing Waxman and Obey in there. But damn, Is that the best we could send from the Senate? Would of liked to see Boxer and Bernie :)

2. There won't be much change from the Senate version.
They cannnot risk losing any of the brave 3Rs.

4. I think Collins is really worried about the price tag. I think there is a legit
argument to be made about using the money for that 15,000 credit for buying house and adding it to schools, food stamps, etc....I think that will happen.

5. We don't need the "brave 3 Republicans" to pass a stimulus
We need 51 votes unless the Republicans end their obstructionist filibuster, if they dare!

And all filibusters end.

8. No filibusters after conference but they need 60 votes to wave fed deficit rules of the Budget Act..
"According to Senate rules, a bill that has emerged from a joint conference cannot be filibustered and could be passed with a simple majority. A 60-vote majority, however, may still be needed to waive provisions of the Budget Act, as required by Senate rules when a pending bill raises the federal deficit."

We'll see what happens in conference.

7. It's about the position they hold
Baucus chairs the Finance Committee, Inouye chairs the appropriations committee. If I am not mistaken, Rangel and Obey hold the corresponding positions in the House. So forget about Boxer, etc.

10. One bright spot: Good thing one of the House members is a Repub.
from CA.

They are in deep, deep doo-doo right now. I won't see him causing a lot of problems with stimulus dollars for public works right now.

We shall see, though..........
