CBS won a close race with ABC, thanks in part to new episodes of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, which had a series high, according to fast national ratings.

President Obama’s first televised press conference averaged 36.9 million viewers across the four major broadcast networks (of course this doesn't take into account cable numbers so the total was much higher). The conference went almost exactly an hour, starting at 8, and had similar ratings across ABC (3.1/8), CBS (3.0/8), and NBC (3.1/8). ABC was tops among total viewers with 11.5 million. Fox also aired the press conference but finished fourth with a 2.2/6. The CW drew a 0.8/2 with a re-run of Gossip Girl.

Can you even imagine the numbers he'll get with the speech to the Joint Session? I read that Barack is selling books, selling magazines, and he's the top draw on TV -- and the Republicans have............? Limbaugh? Hannity? McConnell? O'Reilly? Really!!! Actually, I see the Republicans in 2012 turning to someone like Gen. Petraeus, because I foresee he'll make the MacArthur Mistake ere long.

Ratings aren't the issue inasmuch as the advertising dollars that they receive. Remember that only 22 minutes out of every half hour is an actual show. So that leaves 14 minutes in an hour that is nothing but commercials trying to sell stupid shit to the public. The advertisers pay the networks to run those commercials so that they can reach as wide of an audience as possible. When the President holds an hour long news conference (no commercials obviously LOL), it takes away from their ad revenue even if the ratings are really good.

However, Obama handled the news conference well and it's good that 37 million people had the opportunity to contrast his news conference with the ones called by the idiot President, George W. Bush.
