Gallup: Stimulus Approval Rises to 59% (+7)
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 06:30 PM by mikiturner
Why oh why do repubs continue to go against Obama?

Most of the newfound support comes from rank-and-file Democrats, suggesting President Barack Obama's efforts to sell the plan over the past week -- including in his first televised news conference on Monday -- have shored up support within his own party. Last week, Gallup found 70% of Democrats in favor of Congress passing the economic stimulus package, but today that figure is 82%.

Over the same period, support for the stimulus package held steady among independents, with a slight majority in favor of it. The percentage of Republicans favoring the package rose slightly from 24% to 28%, but remains below the 34% support received in early January, before Congress began its formal consideration of the package.

1. Some of those House Republicans better think twice before voting NO

In the Senate. I know if Burr votes no, he's going to pretty much be done in NC. Democrats already are going to win it. Its just by how much

7. I heard on the news that they are! And now with Cantor's stupid mistake of
sending a curse-riddled response ad about AFSCME, I don't know how many Repubs. will want to be associated with him and his position.

3. Thanks for that. There goes another talking point for the RWers AND the MSM!
Although I must admit the MSM's narrative has changed over the last couple days, saying Obama is gaining momentum for the bill thanks to his "full press campaign mode."

5. So, approval increased 7 points, and opposition decreased 5 points in what, several days?
That's a 12 point swing!

11. Ah, that's right. I missed the dates shown. The increase in support and decrease in opposition
should be even greater after this week is factored in.

6. Once Obama started taking a more active role, approval for the stimulus increased.
I hope Obama learned his lesson about Congress. They are useless without direction.

13. I agree, it was brilliant in it's timing and substance!
Had President Obama started earlier than he did, the repubs and their talking heads would have had time to lie to the public about what the President was saying. Instead, the repubs had already made it clear their strategy and the lies that went with it so the President was able to swat their "chatter" aside and explain in clear terms what the facts were surrounding the Economic Recovery Plan.
