4. I think it's a given he's the worst president ever. Most of the other bad ones were bad through
incompetence and Nixon through a lesser version of Bush's sins.

5. Really bad, but come on, what morons said worse than the Civil War?
That's just ridiculous. The Civil War was the worst period in our nation's history...so far.
Let's hope it stays that way.

6. Worse than Disco but not as bad as the Depression . . .
I hope.

I thought his legacy would be the shredding of the Constitution, the wrecking of New Orleans, world-class ineptitude that puts Grant's administration to shame, and the foolish evil of the Iraq war. But instead . . . it's economic collapse.

If, however, the economic collapse continues to accelerate into a full-scale depression that leads to World War IV (or is is V, I'm losing count) with its attendant environmental catastrophes and lack of will and resources to fight climate change . . . then future anthropologists from Planet Zarg will probably rate Bush as the worst ever.

11. This may yet top the Great Depression - we're not finished yet.
Also, a lot of the Bush Regime's evil/stupid work has yet to be made known, and I'm sure the problems are worse than we realise.
Easily worse than the 60's, a head cold compared to pneumonia.

W is already the worst president to date, and still counting....

13. Worst President Ever. Worse then any of these guys:
From U.S. News and World Report:

"It's too soon to judge the current one, but for past presidents, the verdict is in. U.S. News has averaged the results of five polls to make a gallery of the worst chief executives. The years before the Civil War produced an era of failure: Six of seven presidents who served from 1841 to 1861 made the list."

1. James Buchanan (1857-1861)
He refused to challenge either the spread of slavery or the growing bloc of states that became the Confederacy.

2. Warren G. Harding (1921-1923)
He was an ineffectual and indecisive leader who played poker while his friends plundered the U.S. treasury.

3. Andrew Johnson (1865-1869)
He survived impeachment after opposing Reconstruction initiatives including the 14th amendment.

4. Franklin Pierce (1853-1857)
His fervor for expanding the borders--thereby adding several slave states--helped set the stage for the Civil War.

5. Millard Fillmore (1850-1853)
He backed the Compromise of 1850 that delayed the Southern secession by allowing slavery to spread.

6. John Tyler (1841-1845)
He was a stalwart defender of slavery who abandoned his party's platform once he was president.

7. Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877)
Serving right after Johnson, he presided over an outbreak of graft and corruption, but had good intentions.

8. William Harrison (1841)
He was president for all of 30 days after contracting pneumonia during his interminable inaugural.

9. (tie) Herbert Hoover (1929-1933)
He was known as a poor communicator who fueled trade wars and exacerbated the Depression.

9. (tie) Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
Though politically gifted, he will forever be associated with the Watergate scandal and his resignation.

10. Zachary Taylor (1849-1850)
A political novice, the war hero is entirely forgettable as president.

"U.S. News examined five polls and determines the 13 lowest scoring presidents (including Jimmy Carter at 11th)."http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/worstpresidents/index.htm

Whatever. Bush, Bush, Reagan, and Nixon are the top 4 worst presidents ever! At least they had Nixon there and Johnson was terrible, ruining the Reconstruction.

15. How does William Harrison qualify???
He lasted less than one month for cripes sake.

WTH did he do that was so bad -- I mean he died. That was it. He died.

US News needs to start hiring better people.

16. I think people are already misunderestimating him based on this poll. I'd put him in the top 3
right after the Great Depression in terms of risks to our democracy.
