President Asif Ali Zardari and US President Barack Obama on Wednesday agreed to start active engagement for the resolution of problems facing the region through a holistic strategy. United States President Barack Obama spoke with President Asif Ali Zardari on telephone. This was Obama's first direct interaction with the President of Pakistan after taking over as President. President Zardari congratulated him on assuming the office of US President and expressed the hope that there would be a beneficial change for the world, particularly for their region and Pak-US relations. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations, situation in the region and other issues of mutual interest.
The visit of Special Representative Holbrooke was also discussed. Both leaders underscored a need for a joint strategy to bring peace and security to the region. President Obama reiterated his continued support for democracy, socio-economic and human development in Pakistan.
