Obama on the C-Span Television thing now about Lincoln
Just in case anyone wants to watch.

I'm sure it will be repeated later.

1. Obama gave us a history lesson this morning

What an amazing thing to once again have a President that is intelligent and understands history- and loves history and the Constitution.

After eight years of being abused children, it's just amazing.

3. Very good analogy about "abused children" ... thanks
That is exactly what Bush did to the people of America, treated them as children, and abused them.

2. Interesting. But it's sad that Illinois's corruption problems have even
found their way onto the Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The Commission members include Lura Lynn Ryan, whose husband is sitting in federal prison, Illinois's convicted corrupt former governor; and Julie Cellini, wife of also corrupt William Cellini, identified as "individual A" in the Rezko indictments. There are a lot of Illinoisans who really do represent the values Lincoln held. Our state government, though, is so corrupt, that those ethical people get lost in the crowds of the corrupt.

What would Lincoln think?

4. As lawmakers and guests looked on.....
Obama recalled Lincoln's words in the closing days of the Civil War, when the South's defeat was certain.

Lincoln "could have sought revenge," Obama said, but he insisted that no Confederate troops be punished.

A day after House and Senate leaders agreed on a costly economic stimulus plan that drew scant Republican support, Obama said, "we are far less divided than in Lincoln's day," but "we are once again debating the critical issues of our time."

"Let us remember that we are doing so as servants to the same flag, as representatives of the same people, and as stakeholders in a common future," Obama said. "That is the most fitting tribute we can pay and the most lasting monument we can build to that most remarkable of men, Abraham Lincoln."

This connection comes straight from "The Audacity of Hope." I am amazed to have these qualities in a president.
He is consistent and he is honest. He keeps his promises thus, he has followed through early in his presidency.
He is incredibly honest. His positions are not posturing. If he takes a position, he means it. He doesn't just write pretty words. He believes what he says.

Anyone who has read "The Audacity of Hope" should know everything he has done is consistent with his political leanings and his analysis of the possibilities for the future.

I think we are going to witness greatness over thhe course of the next 8 years.....
