How ballistic will DU go if Obama selects another puke for Commerce?
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 07:39 PM by Parker CA
The way I see it, Obama may feel that even though this first attempt failed, it would be worth it to give one more solid effort at bringing in someone from across the aisle to fill the position. I'm not sure that he will quickly abandon the idea and select a Dem.

It would be a mess if he went with a puke and had them withdraw or be pulled for some other reason, again, so perhaps he will just pick from within the party, but something tells me he might feel that he owes it to his bi-partisan efforts to give it one more go with someone outside of the Dem's.

Clearly, sentiment here on DU is heavily against even the most remote notion of putting a puke in again, but putting those thoughts aside, is there a chance Obama will do it?

What say you?

FWIW, I wouldn't consider anything other than a solid Dem pick at this point.

8. My thoughts exactly. If he picks one it should be a Gov who supports stimulus.
If he picks another Senator, especially one who voted against the stimulus, I will be frustrated.

3. Obama should take a very hard lesson and go pick someone else...
hmm.. a Republican governor with a Dem Lt. Governor?

How about Arnie?

Just get him out of California and doing nothing in Commerce while his lackeys do all the work...

I know Arnie should be nowhere near Commerce, but he can always resign the next day.

7. I agree. I think it would be opening too many potential opportunities for futher issues

that will obstruct his goals moving forward. Stick someone solid in there that shares core Dem values, and deal with the flack from the pukes when they say he has abandoned the bi-partisan commitment. Tweety has already started. "This IS NOT the bi-partisan cabinet we had been promised." If Tweety is spouting this nonsense, then the pukes will be plasterting it everywhere it will stick.

6. HE's got to pick a more left leaning Democrat now
Basically, he has no choice but to swing the pendulum back the other way. Politically, it's really his only choice now.

9. Can we suggest it on the websites
that Obama admin offers? I'm at work now so I don't have time to research but when I get home I want to write to them and say "Hey"..we'd really like some real people in these Posts and not some attempt at "bi-partisian" when their only objective is to hinder.

10. I don't care if he picks a Repuke, as long they come from the Senate
and they have bigger balls than Gregg.

The Sec of Commerce has nearly zero clout, and isn't even in charge of the census. Better there than in the Senate as long as they're replaced by a Dem.

15. I'm split, Clio. The argument against his ability to form a bi-partisan cabinet is already
being fought in full-force. I think there is a good chance he will pick another puke, but perhaps this time, one whom has expressed more support for the stimulus.

Tough call though, because if he does go with a Dem, regardless of the validity of the argument, he will face constant criticism about not being bi-partisan.

21. Rewarding one of the three that split off perhaps?
I hadn't thought of that ..... that would certainly send home the message of the importance of being bipartisan.

Secretary Snowe? :)

13. I don't know about DU, but personally
I think he should give up trying to extend a hand to those bastards. They want him to fail and will screw him every chance they get. He should not even trust those who pretend to cooperate with him.

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Almost as bad as the primaries!

22. There is a growing divide between Republican Governors and Mayors versus DC Republicans

I think it would be smart to pick a reasonable Mayor to further isolate Rep Senator/Representatives.

To the average American all of this hostility to Obama looks infantile and rude.

Obama looks intelligent and like a gentleman.

Commerce is still a meaningless position and the WH will still control the census and anything really important.

26. I'll finally have enough, I'll say that much. It seems like he's
bent over backwards to surround himself at every turn with the same bunches of jag-offs who've been screwing everything up for the last two decades. And at a time when the atmosphere is more ripe for dramatic, positive change than at any time since the end of World War II.

My enthusiasm for this administration is approaching its last legs already. I've seen this movie too many times.

will come when He DOESN'T pick Howard Dean for HHS! You scream, I scream, we all scream for Howard Dean! (As it were.) Yeeaarrgghhh!

(I've been away from the net for a couple days, and for all I know, the HHS sec'y has already been picked. As a disclaimer.)
