his hand so early? About a week ago, I read something about the Obama team putting the US Census under another agency (or under the authority of someone in the WH?), because of their differences with Gregg about how the census should be conducted. That was odd enough, in itself. If Gregg had intended to whiten the census, you would think he would have shut up, hidden his views and done it quietly. And if the Obama team knew his views on the census when he was vetted, why did they appoint him to Commerce?
It looks more to me like Obama punked the Pukes. Maybe Obama knew about Gregg's Abramoff connection, and when Gregg put himself forward for the job (as the WH press release about his withdrawal said he had done), Obama, like the spider to the fly, said, "Sure, welcome to my web." Obama scores a big point on bipartisanship, and already has the info he needs (the Abramoff connection) to conveniently dump him out, before he has a chance to screw up the census and the Commerce department.
OR, this could be merely the artifact of new administration, which had to hit the ground running on the economic meltdown. There were misunderstandings all around (he thought they were more Pukish than they really are; they thought he wouldn't do anything so bold as whitening the census). No biggie--just a little first-14-days bump in the road. Bye-bye Gregg.
I tend to favor the second theory--that it wasn't the Pukes punking Obama, but the other way around (and it wasn't a misunderstanding). If so, we have a truly great political strategist as President. Other evidence points this way. In any case, I think we need to be wary of any event that the corpo/fascist 'news' monopolies use to portray Obama's actions as missteps, mistakes, messups, whatever. They've been so used to playing schoolyard bully politics, that they have no appreciation for subtle moves that ultimately outwit the bullies.
