McCain says Obama needs to work on bipartisanship

http://uk.reuters.com/article/usPoliticsNews/idUKTRE51C65H20090213

Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:05pm GMT

By Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senator John McCain said on Friday that President Barack Obama should include Republicans in his plans sooner if he really wants their support after the bitter debate over the $787 billion economic stimulus bill.

McCain, who lost the 2008 presidential election to Obama, and other Republicans complained they had been left out of negotiations on the legislation by Democrats who hold majorities in both houses of Congress.

McCain said the bill was filled with non-emergency spending paid for with borrowed money that future generations will have to pay back.

"I think that the majority of people understand that this was generational theft," McCain told Reuters.

The Arizona senator said many other issues coming up will require a bipartisan effort that he said has been lacking so far from Obama and the Democrats. "I hope they've learned a lesson," he said. "I hope that they will reverse course, and sit down, negotiate from the beginning, so you're in on the takeoff, so you can be in on the landing."

10. When Republicans get a fucking clue, Obama will be more than happy to include them
The Iraq War and the Republican tax cuts were generational theft. This isn't spending because we can. This is spending because we don't have any other choice. It's basic economics that during a recession people won't spend money and the only thing to do in that situation is have the government spend money. It's really that simple.

No wonder he thought he was going to win the election. He still thinks that the lower number in a poll is the majority.

Hey asswipe, a majority of the people are for this bill. Brush up on your mathematics.

Some maverick. I hated how, after the election was over, the media tried to revive the myth of the maverick and forget all about the horrid campaign just because he gave an ok acceptance speech. And they kept saying "McCain is going to be an important ally for Obama in the senate." Yeah freaking right, I knew that would never happen.

It confuses everyone, and makes the criticism against YOU for your fault sound like a "back atcha" criticism.

Obama just won a major victory and McCain's bouncing on his bloody stubs shouting "I hope you learned a lesson, chicken! Come back here and listen to me!"

As mentioned above, Obama learned a lesson. Don't start negotiating from the position at which you wish to end. It will not happen again.

I also think Obama intentionally tested the Republicans and they played every card they had. He's is now well aware of exactly what he is dealing with. Count on it John, he has taken notes. He knows exactly what your game is and next time will be well prepared to sidestep you and yours every move and instead work with those who he can persuade.
