"This is the most expensive expenditure bill in the history of the US" Senator Barrasso (W)
Not even close.

The Iraqi War Resolution was by any standard the most expensive bill in the history of the United States, and was passed with no thought about how much it was going to be paid for or how much it will cost.

And Senator McCain the only "generational theft" going on is the trillion dollars that was stollen from the next generation on the Iraqi War - not to speak of the actual loss of actual members of that generation.

Building schools and bridges and other infrastructure is an investment for the next generation. Employing thier parents is the kind of investment the next generation is gladly behind.

These guys have now seperated themselves so far from reality that they have seperated themselves from Republican Governors, Republican Mayors and Republican businessmen. Of course they seperated themselves from the next generation a long time ago when they thought that homophobia was a sound political strategy.

1. Obama's revenge: Freeze all Dept. of Defense budgets for FY09-10
and have auditors look for wrongdoing..

They'll get the Rethugs outta the hidey-hole and vote Obama's way.

2. And, the bushits got us into this
position that we have to go into further debt to stimulate our economy.

Mccain needs to suspend his campaign, cancel the debate, and fly to DC to meet with bush to save the economy..oh wait, that shit didn't work.

5. Their problem began when they first voted in totality against the stimulus the
first time it came to the House. From that point on, they pushed themselves further out onto their own cliff, taking with them the end of the rope Obama fed them. They are now stuck on the dwindling edge with some frayed ends in their hands.

Their appeal to their ever-decreasing and marginalized base will do nothing for them but further isolate their social beliefs and philosophical ideologies from the majority of this country. The chasm they are creating between their insulated existence in both the House and the Senate and the real-life experiences of the Governors, Mayors, and constituents in many parts of this country will surely contribute greatly to their downfall.

If Obama decides on selecting another across-the-aisle choice for SoC, he has the opportunity to further expand this chasm and prove that there are still some out there on the right that see the real benefit in the stimulus, in the need for great changes to the economic game-plan, and most importantly, that recognize the positive potential results of working with Obama and the Dem's.

Succeeding in this manner could result in an even more extreme marginalization of those on the far right, and could potentially pull many middle-right state and city level government officials to the left, toward Obama.

8. The Iraq War so far has cost...
around $650 billion. The stimulus is more than $100 billion bigger than that. Now if we stay in Iraq long enough, the war will be the most expensive thing we've ever done.

9. But the real cost is much larger than that because it is exported out of the
country with no stimulus effect.

This bill creates jobs and those folks spend their money and the money circulates and as it spins around tax revenue is created.

Also the United States is also making hundreds of billions of dollars of expenditures in Iraq through the United Nations, the IMF and other international organizations.

Moreover your direct expenditure figure doesn't include the extra billions that have been spent by the intelligence community on Iraq related figures.

10. Remove the tax cuts ...

For that to be a valid comparison, one has to remove the tax cuts. For purposes of this bill, which the Republicans want to advertise as the most expensive thing ever, they'll include them as a part of the calculation.

Funny, though, that they were all that hot on framing Bush's tax cuts in the same manner.

13. Excellent point...
the Rethugs didn't have a problem with $1+ trillion tax cuts under Bush. And with this stimulus bill, tax cuts made up around $300 billion of it. That should be taken out, so long as Rethugs don't want to count tax cuts as "big government spending."
