Why is Obama/Geithner opposed to CEO compensation caps?
I just read an AP piece that said Geithner and Summers were arguing before congress against CEO compensation caps for bailed out companies.

Tell me this is a lie. If this is true, it's a complete violation of the trust I placed in him when I voted and donated to his campaign.

1. Not to worry. Caps were included in the stimulus bill and as California Peggy
recently posted, they are going to be retroactive as well.

4. Right, that's what I read. I'm just baffeled why Congress had to fight
for these caps. Obama came out and seemed to initially support this.

Did he change his mind?

If he did, I want Summers and Geithner gone. Period. And Obama needs to explain why he sold out to corporate crooks if he ever expects a vote or support from me again.

2. The CEOs have them scared they will go to Europe.
Bwahahaha. Let them. Then they can cope with those universal health care taxes they constantly fight against here.

3. The caps are in. Obama's going to sign it
As far as I'm concerned, that's the final decision on the matter.

What type of assistance was needed/granted.

6. A link, please, to this bullshit AP story?
Please, if you read it on the net then you can provide a URL link to the story.

Otherwise the post is kinda useless.

Thanks! :hi:

8. A little off topic, but...
maybe you can help me out here....I recently changed internet providers from AOL to Comcast. With AOL, the URL links used to show up in the browser box. (is that what it's called?) Now, that box is empty. Is it something I'm doing - or not doing?

(By the way, you can probably tell that I can be, sometimes, a little technically challanged).....:hi:

12. Are you using internet explorer 7.0?
If not what version?

(Go to help, About Internet Explorer and it will tell you what version you are using)

17. I don't use Explorer, removed it from my computer in face, but....
...most browsers have viewing the URL an option that can be shut on or off in preferences.

When you change service providers you often end up getting their personalized browser, customized the way they want it.
You don't need to use it, you can download anything you want.

Many like the security features of Firefox, my first choice, and by default it shows the URL of the current page across the top of the screen and displays any link under your cursor across the bottom.

This last feature is very useful because one might see the address before clicking, if you don't like the address you don't go there.
Emails that are trying to scam you, for example, are easy to recognize because the address they want to send you to is bogus.

So, look under "preferences" for your Explorer, or try downloading Firefox, you may like it.

18. Not sure what you're calling a "browser box." It is your browser, though, and not...
not your internet service provider, that affects the appearance and all of what you see on the internet. Is what you call the "browser box" the skinny rectangular "http" box at top left, where the address of the internet page you are on normally shows? Or where you type in the www address of a site you want to go to?

The other poster is right in that you probably need to go to your settings and change some of those. How to do that:

Go to TOOLS, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, click on the ADVANCED tab. There are all the settings. Look for the heading BROWSING. Here is a common set of settings:

close unused folder
disable script debugging
enable ftp folder view
enable page transitions
enable favorite pages
enable third party browser extensions
enable visual styles on buttons...
reuse windows for lauching shortcuts...
show friendly http error messages
underline links always
use inline autocomplete
use passive ftp
use smooth scrolling

20. Apparently, the correct name
for what I was calling a "browser box" is "IP Address box". Thank you for your suggestions. I found the list, but it is extensive. Do you have any idea which of the options I would need to check?

I even asked our IT guy here at work, and he went to the tab on his own computer, and is at a loss for what to tell me. He called the problem "bizarre" and was stumped. And let me tell you...it ain't easy to stump him!

9. He does...we even heard him say it. I don't know where the AP
and other outlets get this from. Someone earlier said Geitner didn't? I don't know....at the end of the day, they are in there and I know I heard the President says he wanted them capped at 500K.

13. Do you have a link to this AP piece you are referring to?
IT would help the discussion.

Last I read and heard, the President meant what he said, and is getting what he asked for, and then some.

Perfection is that it is going ratroactive, and President cannot be blamed by anyone for that, although I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with it. :)

Genius!

15. Moot issue. An amendment added strict controls.
But ftr Geithner was squishy on the pay caps which Obama favored which can't be a big surprise, but no worries because Dodd's amendment fixed it up right quick and in a hurry: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/14/stimulus.pay/

16. Not sure if Geithner opposes it. But I would assume if he does. His concerns
are the cuts in tax revenues. And whether it would discourage Banks from participating in the TARP program.
