One of the worst things about Republicans is their assumption that Americans are stupid

Republicans have bet their entire "win back the Congress" strategy on Americans being too stupid to tune in for themselves. They keep repeating that "Obama is off to a bad start" and that "America doesn't support this stimulus" in contrast to every poll available right now. They keep repeating this line in order for "stupid" Americans to disagree with themselves and start doubting Obama.

I know I'm just stating the obvious, but god is it frustrating and annoying.

EDIT: When you think about it, though, it's almost not really their fault. I mean, when you look at all that Americans have voted for in the last decade, it's not completely unreasonable to conclude that Americans' stupidity (as an aggregate) is literally limitless.

I don't think people are so much stupid as misinformed. You got all these people trapped on the ratcage wheel, running, running...they don't have the time or mental energy to keep up with what's going on. Combine that with learned helplessness, manifesting as a deep-seated belief that it really all doesn't matter anyway because their lives can't get better, and you get an electorate like the one we have.

13. I used to think the same thing, but have come to the conclusion;

that they, themselves, are stupid and truly believe what they say. As for the 30% who follow them, it goes back to the old Lincoln quote that you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Its not surprising considering how insulated the GOP is and how many members are 50+. Now anyone with an ounce of curiosity and 5 minutes to kill and find out how full of shit they are when they talk. The GOP has successfully intimidated the corporate media with accusations of 'liberal bias' into not criticizing GOP talking points or strategies. But the internet cannot be intimidated into silence the way regular media outlets like newspapers and TV news shows can.

But really, they have something of a point. The dems lost congress in 1994 in part due to rebellion over universal healthcare. The fact that the public voted in the GOP because they were upset that Clinton tried to get UHC doesn't speak well for our intellect.
