Good ideas and support here, but if I were him, i would visit the "other" sites as a reality check or have someone else do it for him.

Take a look around friends. If you count out LBN what do you see? "Thanks for the hearts!! n/t" "Fuck! Fuckity-fuck-fuck!" "Really raining here!" and other utterly useless shit. Throw in the many sub-threads that go like this: "You suck" "No, you suck" "No, you suck"......and the nonsense. not worth reading factor increases. Great and fun stuff for the lounge but as part of the supposed political discussion forums? Um, no. While I have personally gotten over the fact that most times such content will be a part of GD and GDP forever more, I have also accepted the fact that, because of this, DU will not likely be used (much less cited!!) as a source by anyone of consequence.

I know this is a business decision of sorts of course. If letting lots of lounge stuff stay in the non-lounge forums keeps DU popular and keeps the donations rolling in, more power to the DU team. Still, there's a trade off and that is credibility in the hard-hitting-political-discussion ranking.
