First of all I think the media should still show restraint in covering Palin's family, HOWEVER when your 18 year old daughter, who just had a baby, decides to speak to FOX NEWS about the baby, abstinence, etc. its hard to claim that the family is off limits. Discuss. . .

1. She's an adult. She can do what she wants.
She may have approached Fox News herself, for all we know.

7. You think she's in control of her life?
How about mom made the arrangements for this little appearance and also coached her on the talking points!

That would be a little more believable in this case.

26. So do I.
But it is those girls that are responsible and take command of their lives to make something out of themselves that I admire. I can always forgive a person for their mistakes, but the Palin's have paraded this around like she should be emulated. If kids are going to have sex then they should use the proper measures to they are protected from unwanted pregnancies and STDs. A parent that doesn't drill this in their kids' head while sticking their own head up their butt isn't doing their job. Abstinence sex education is about effect as the war on drugs.

Sarah was saying nice things about what a great mom Bristol is.

And the look on Bristol's face was not one of "Thank, Mom!" or "Golly Gee Shucks".

I interpreted it as either one of fear, but also thought there might be an element of disdain.

Disturbing, indeed. And wholly transparent.

44. Come on, lay off Levi. He was an Obama supporter (seriously)
Right at the height of all the "terrorist!" and "kill him!" Palin rally frenzy, Levi gave an interview to ABC and was asked what he thought of Obama. He said "I like him, he seems like a good guy." Now, remember the atmosphere around the Palin camp at that time and reflect on those words from a Palin insider. Pretty amazing, eh? He indicated that he would be voting for Palin (he didn't come right out and say he definitely would), but I think that was just because it seemed like the right thing to say about your future mother-in-law. I will bet that in the privacy of the voting booth, he voted Obama.

The point is, it took a lot of balls for him to not only go against Palin's bullshit lies/scorn about Obama, but to say what he did, going against everything that everyone around him was saying, means that he must have been paying attention to Obama without those right wing filters. He was NOT listening to the SOCIALIST!/MARXIST!/PALS AROUND WITH TERRORISTS! crap Palin was spewing, and had a mind of his own. My opinion of him right at that moment did an about-face. That was ballsy, honest and very cool.

I really don't want to watch the Bristol interview, but I'd watch one with Levi.

42. See post #41 for the conflicting answers
He sure as hell was NOT part of the interview except for a few still shots provided by the Palin family.
After Palin stormed her way in to the interview it was ***all*** "Bristol has a large family to help her" as they listed off "her grandparents, her sisters, her parents, her this, her that" and then Palin quickly added as an afterthought "oh, and Levi".

We'll see. And let's see if the Palin's turn that in to a media circus.

I saw last night's interview till I fell asleep - missed Sarah thank goodness.

I thought Bristol is a beautiful young woman. Trip is cute. I know she says she wishes she had waited but I thought she was almost glamorizing having a baby, not intentionally, but that she loves the kid, and it's fun to be a mother, etc.

Found it a very mixed message to teen girls. I know a number of teen girls who have gotten pregnant cause they want to have a baby, and its a way to try to keep the guy, etc.

But for most teen girls they lack the resources Bristol has available to her just from her mom's status.

I do think we should "stay classy" BUT the record should reflect that she is no longer "off limits."

23. The media needs to ignore them
Frankly, isn't there anything better for the media to cover than Bristol Palin and the Octuplets mom?

If they must cover women who have recently given birth, why don't they showcase some more positive role models? And before anyone starts defending dear little Bristol, there are many reports about her using drugs, etc., and she dropped out of school. No, I don't think "correspondence school" requires the same hard work as a young person staying in school, getting up and going to that school on a schedule, dealing with a dress code, and rules, etc.

Why don't I see stories about a young, pregnant mother who is trying to finish high school, etc.?

The only reason that Bristol Palin is getting any media attention whatsoever is because that's exactly what her mommy wants to have happen - and Sarah will enjoy the attention vicariously.

Stopping teen sex? Ain't gonna happen.

So says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren Monday night that the abstinence her mom preaches is "not realistic at all."

Bristol Palin, who gave birth in late December, described the rigors of being a teen mom, and while she wouldn't go into detail why it isn't realistic for guys and gals her age not to have sex, she did say it isn't smart to get knocked up.

"Everyone should wait 10 years," Palin said. "I hope people learn from my story. It's so much easier if you're married, have a house and career. It's not a situation you want to strive for."

She denied that her mother's anti-abortion views were the reason she went ahead with the pregnancy.
"It was my choice to have the baby," she said. "It doesn't matter what my mom's views are on it. It was my decision."

Fuckin' hell. I don't know if I can be impressed by a teen mom. I'm sorry. I just think that living off my parents and forced into a shot-gun wedding which was what was being done...just doesn't float for me.

36. Most teens don't have careers and living with her parents is the smart choice
I'm impressed that she's speaking out against abstinence education which goes against what her own mother believes...this is all I meant by my initial post.

As for living at home, I have no problem with family helping out family in times of need. She's a very young single mom now and while this isn't the best way for her to start her adult life, the best thing she can do now is concentrate on her baby and further her education. Having said that, I don't think it's worthy of news coverage.

41. Sarah is running out of things to keep herself in the media headlines
So it is time to drag out the offspring. She "walked in on" the Bristol interview. GVS trying her best to act surprised when Palin walked in holding Tripp in her arms. Apparently, there was "another grandmother" out in the hallway cuz GVS kept saying "oooh, I was expecting it was the OTHER GRANDMOTHER" (twice) to which Palin acted annoyed and curtly said "SHE is out in the hallway". Ummmm...so what did Palin do, play tug of war with Tripp and storm her way into the interview? Once Palin walked in, Bristol was pretty muched shoved by the wayside for the rest of the "interview".
Bristol's responses didn't do much to stop any speculation, IMHO. When asked where Levi was (if he was working), she said that he was (paraphrasing here) working with or helping his Dad. Then in the next breath she said that Levi sees the baby "everyday". OK..last word was his Dad worked on the Northslope. Not exactly a place where people commute to and from each day. SO, if he is with his Dad on the North Slope how is he seeing the baby everyday? And how did he manage to show up mid-week at his mother's court date last week??
Then came the "at the snow machine races" part of the interview where Palin literally pulled the microphone AWAY from Piper when GVS put the mike down to Piper to ask HER a question. Palin pulled it back up to her level to continue bitching about the stimulus bill. So Piper was left with an open mouth, ABOUT to say something and then the mike was gone.
