So who has been caught up in the Obama Mania memorabilia?
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 11:05 PM by Rebellious Republica
I confess I began collecting buttons, posters, and various other campaign items about a year ago. I started with just keeping some things while campaigning and canvasing. What ever items and literature I came across while working on the campaign for "O" here locally, I would stash one or two for my self. Then I decided it would probably be a good investment to purchase a limited edition Antar Dayal numbered art poster at a Democratic party fund raiser auction back in June. I paid $65.00, I thought that was a little high but figured it was for a good cause. Besides, I liked the print and the artist and thought it was a nice piece.

Wow, to my astonishment I checked on EBAY for the first time since I purchased it and saw how much those same prints are going for today.http://shop.ebay.com/items/_nkw=2008+Barack+Obama+Yes+We+Can+Antar+Dayal+Poster+Fairey&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=2008+Barack+Obama+Yes+We+Can+Antar+Dayal+Poster+Fairey&_osacat=550

So, I decided to look up the items that I held onto from the campaign and see what they were fetching. I could not believe my eyes, the different kinds of things that are for sale. Its amazing the crazy types of Obama things and gadgets that are for sale. One of the oddest things I saw was a Dog Shirt.

So my question is, what are some of the strangest Obama items have other DU'ers seen?

Good times.

so posters will kindly dispense with the right wing "worship" BS.

and trying to shed as much "stuff" as we can. I am reveling in the person and leadership that is Obama, though!

16. No critique intended! There are always silly, over the top things, aren't there!
We've found that as we've hit our 50s we just feel so cluttered...when my dad passed away last year and it was my and my wife's job to clear out his/my mom's home, it was awful...so we've decided that we are going to keep shedding stuff to make it easy on our girls when we are ready to go off to greater adventures!

13. Anything popular will be commercialized. During the Inauguration, in DC they were
selling anything and everything with Obama's likeness. It's a side effect of the man being popular, attractive, and having broad appeal.

Reagan no doubt had all kinds of stupid crap bearing his likeness as well and he doesn't have an ounce of Obama's appeal if you ask me.

Hell, they sell coins and plaques and crap commemorating 9/11 fer chrissakes.

17. "It's a side effect of the man being popular, attractive, and having
broad appeal." Yes, isn't great to have a president with those qualities for a change.

As far as the other part of your post, I guess its just a sad commentary on life in these times MM.

23. I don't have a single campaign item, from any campaign.
It's not like the old days. Way back when, you had to get the stuff directly from the campaigns. Now, with "Cafe Press" and computers and printers, any old bozo can "create" stuff called "memorabilia." But really, it's not the same stuff. You want more, you can print more. The "rarity factor" isn't there.

Of course, what is lost in rarity is sometimes made up for with the creativity factor....

29. Whether or not from the campaign....

The object of the game is to find the tackiest item that was actually produced in earnest.

I was disappointed halfway through the ad for the Joe Biden Commemorative Plate that it was a spoof ad.

With a Certificate of Authenticity from the Society of Commemorative Plate Authenticators.

Okay - so - here's what I really want. I want a Certificate of Authenticity for any item of memorabilia. Not the item, just the Certificate of Authenticity.

And I want that Certificate authenticated.

30. Well, I think all the "official" Obama coins and plates, that are for real, are HIDEOUS!
And they've got Montel Williams, doing an Obama imitation (listen to the cadence of his speech, he's "channeling" BHO) doing the voice-over for one of them.

Talk about craven using (and misusing) of a person's celebrity for personal gain!!

33. Thanks for trying to explain Runcible Spoon's snarky answer, MADem
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 05:57 PM by Rebellious Republica
However, like her pseudonym, it is nonsense. There was nothing in my original post that would indicate that I support Chinese child labor. Go back and reread my original post, then read her reply. Show me where anything in my post has anything to do with her snarky response. I have collected Obama campaign literature, posters and buttons, handed out by the campaign headquarters in my town. I purchased a poster print designed by an American Artist for Obama that was printed in the USA by union labor, at least according to the Obama Store website http://store.barackobama.com/ . If anyone wants to challenge that then they need to take it up with the Obama campaign and the Obama Store Website were the artists print was originally sold before I purchased it at auction.

I did not see anything regarding plates in the post or even anything remotely advocating the purchase of that kind of crap in my post. The whole point to my post was just how overboard the marketing and sales of products have become. So in essence we see eye to eye. I am Not flaming you per say, I believe you missed Runcible Spoon's intention for what it was, nonsense. However I doubt I will get a response from her because I do have an idea why it was made.

34. Just about anything they're shoving down our throats, post-election. is probably
coming from China...but so what? Anyone who buys that crap deserves a swell return on their investment...like paying thirty bucks for a picture of Obama painted on a one dollar coin being worth...er, a dollar, a few years from now! They can put it next to their one dollar gold-sprayed coin with the "fold out" twin towers....also worth...a dollar!

It's all so tacky!

If people start picking on you on the internet, that's their problem, IMO. They need to get a life!!
