Republicanism. An ideology for the terminally stupid. latest exhibit...California Coup
Check out the news below. These people take party unity and ideology before statesmanship to a new low level.

<SNIP>

SACRAMENTO -- Republican state senators upset with tax increases in the budget proposal agreed to by Republican Sen. Dave Cogdill have voted to remove him as minority leader, Cogdill said early Wednesday.

The Senate's 15 Republican members voted to replace Cogdill with Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth, R-Murietta.

The late-night coup could derail already strained budget talks by requiring Democrats and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to renegotiate with a new Republican leader.

Majority Leader Darrell Steinberg directed lawmakers to begin taking up the budget vote just before 1 a.m.

2. All the republican'ts have taken the 'norquist pledge' -
refuse to raise taxes - and are proud of it! Evidently that is more important serving the citizens of the state. It amazes me that these asswipes continue to get re-elected, since they pull this crap every year.

3. If you are due a tax refund and the state says you cannot have it,
is that a tax increase?

4. kicking with the addition that now it is affecting lives
now because of a few intractable horrible Republicans who think some extra dollars coming from the many to help cover the budget shortfalls occuring due to massive home value reductions, layoffs, recession, etc. is against their principle, PEOPLE SUFFER.

They are being unpatriotic and I hope all can see them for what they are--obstructionists who wish to do harm to the great state of Califronia to protect their own selfish interests.

8. We should just call their bluff on taxes and let them vote on a bill to permanently repeal all taxes
Seriously, we should do that. The republicans did the exact same thing in the house several years ago on Iraq, letting everyone vote on removing all troops from Iraq immediately, the bill only got like 2 yes votes.

If enough republicans are dumb enough to actually vote for a bill to permanently remove all taxes it makes them wide open to attacks of being fiscally irresponsible, and not caring about balancing the budget.

More and more the republican party keeps on becoming more self destructive by the day. It's like they don't even realize that you know, having a governor of your party forced to do stuff like lay off state employees, and give them unpaid days off while he helplessly waits for the budget to reach his desk, could you know, make him even less popular?

The saddest part about all this is that most of members of congress live in such heavily gerrymandered districts that even if the public got sick of one party over this budget problem, it wouldn't make a difference. Congressional districts are so badly gerrymandered in California that despite the big democratic waves the last 4 years, only one seat in congress has switched parties since the last redistricting, and almost all incumbents in CA win by at least double digits.
